given watkins' comments in the times last week, it would unfortunately seem that even if we 2 mill for cox - only a very small proportion of it would be invested in the playing squad because it is needed for running costs

I'd be very cautious about expexting £2 million plus for cox, the maynard transfer in itself was over inflated. City were in desperation looking for a striker and would, and did, pay over the odds for one. With clubs needing to be more frugale with their spending now, i'd say were probably looking at somewhere between 750k - £1.5 Mill.

It seemed to me that they were going to lose revenue through advertising packages being reduced in price and the corporate facilities were not being used so much.

Would this equate to a seven figure sum? Absolutely not.

I have done this before and I will do it again today.

Say we get £1million for him.

10% (?) goes to Reading in their sell-on fee (probably on profit, so £75k)
£250k goes back to AF for his up-front interest-free loan to sign him in the first place
15% goes to the tax man

So straight away we're down to £525k.

If SC doesn't request a transfer he'll get a slice of the £1million, maybe 10%?

That leaves £425k.

Some of that will be used to offset losses from the season gone (e.g. paying off Malpas, signing extra players on loan) and some will be put aside for a rainy day.

I'm just guessing here actually to be honest but I bet some of that is vaguely accurate.

if Cox doesnt request a transfer isnt he entitled to the money he would earn for the remainder of his contract?

I think we'd be better off keeping him and risk losing him for nothing if we can only get £525k.

Apart from Sheff United how many teams outside the Premiership can afford to pay £2m

I also imagine Reading will be receiving more than 10%. How much did Chelsea have when Parkin went?
