Title: Bobby Zamora
Post by: LJ9 on Monday, December 7, 2009, 11:03:09
This got me mad last night when I saw how Bobby Zamora reacted to scoring a goal against Sunderland.

The way he went about it was unprofessional IMO, pushing his own players out of the way to get his point across. Granted he hasn't scored in a couple of months and was getting a bit of unwanted abuse from fans but to silence them - just score goals and don't make a prick of yourself in front of your home fans (who pay the wages!).

What's worse, was that after the game Roy Hodgson said that Zamora has got a great chance in making the England World Cup squad. Honestly, what planet is that man on??? England and indeed the Premiership do not want or need this type of dickhead acting in that manner.

If he was trying to get the fans back onside just score and get on with it. I think he's got a bit more unnecessary attention after that celebration at the weekend.

Sorry for the rant, but it just pissed me off.

Charlie Austin has as much chance of going to the World Cup with England as Zamora does.

I maintain that Zamora is still a League One player at best. Fair play to him for keeping himself in the Premier League, but he's certainly no Didier Drogba or Wayne Rooney.

Title: Re: Bobby Zamora
Post by: Nemo on Monday, December 7, 2009, 11:29:06
Of course Hodgson doesn't really think it, he just knows the guy needs to think he's the best to play to his best, in the same way as Martin O'Neill called Ashley Young "World Class".

Some players need to be told how great they are, some need to be told they're playing like shit, depends on character.

That said though, depth for England up front isn't exactly stellar, Zamora probably scrapes the top 10- Rooney, Defoe, Crouch, Cole, Heskey, Agbonlahor, Bent, Owen then who? Names like Andy Johnson start coming up and it's all much of a muchness then.

Textbook man management from Roy Hodgson. You're not going to tell the press that "he's alright but he's got fuck all chance of getting in the England squad".

If someone told me a couple of years ago that Carlton Cole would be playing for England I'd have scoffed. Anything can happen between now and the summer... all it takes is one or two injuries etc etc etc

Very true...in 2002 we ended up with Danny Mills and Trevor Sinclair, in fact you can more or less guarantee that we'll end up with some strange names because of injury.

they smudged it on MOTD so you couldn't lip read so that pretty much guarantees he was saying fuck or cunt. probably went something like "FUCK OFF!", "FUCK YOU" or perhaps "FUCKING SHUT UP!"

And Nemo, behave yourself, Young and Andy Johnson are gods!

Sinclair was in a good run of form in the run up to 2002. Pretty sure he had an awesome game against Argentina after coming on as a sub early in the game. Linked up well with Ashley Cole as well.

They always seem to rate Zamora highly on MOTD. Not sure he's anywhere near the England squad, but a few injuries and Capello wanting a wild card then who knows, stranger things have happened.

Which is funny because he only went because Gerrard and then Danny Murphy pulled out with injuries.

It amused me last time round the big old panic when Defoe didn't get in and was apparently amazing in training when he travelled as a stand-by. The fact Eriksson didn't even field Walcott during the competition makes that, for me, his most baffling decision (prior to the competition I thought it was quite a gutsy call but to not even play him and therefore eliminate an attacking option? Insane).

ZAMORA!!!!!!!  8) Cracking right foot finish on saturday, having bullied Caldwell out of the way first. If he starts being more selfish and taking on more shots, he'll score more goals this season than Heskey, Carlton Cole AND Crouch. Mark my, rather daft, words.

You're just bottling it because he's going to rip your gents to shreds at Craven Cottage in the new year.

Zamora, Premier League. Cox, only recently broken into the West Brom side.

Zamora > Cox.

For now, atleast. When Cox has played in the Premier League consistently for a few years, and scored a winner in a play-off final, give me a shout. But for now, you can't suggest Cox is better because he's never kicked a ball in the Premier League.  :bye:

Listen gents, I'm not saying Bobby is the best in the league or anything like that, but he's a quality player for Fulham, he gives them so much more than you gents gave him credit for in the first page of this thread. He scored 32 goals in 2 consecutive seasons as a teenager for us, and then still hit 15 in a relegated side in the old first division, when he missed about half the season through injury. He's changed his role since going into the Premier League, he barely gets shots off anymore. He's all about the hold up play and the physical presence up front. In his credit, he was brilliant as Fulham beat Liverpool, and Carragher got sent off when he couldn't deal with him. Bobby terrorised Sol Campbell at Highbury so much that Campbell couldn't go on and stormed off at half time! Bobby also scored the winner for West Ham at the Emirates a couple of seasons back. He is better than you give him credit for being, but he's not exactly an opposing fans favourite player but that doesn't mean he's no good.

Cox 29 in the league, Zamora 28, king. But Zamora hit 32 in all competitions, much like Cox. Season before, Zamora had also hit 32, 28 in the league.

Do you know, King, that's exactly what I meant in my previous post.  :D

I'm looking forward to seeing this Austin chap, I've heard alot (too much, if I'm honest!) about him and I'm told he's a bit a player! Of course, seeing him against the Albion isn't really fair anyway, considering he'll be DOMINATED by Elphick and Tunnicliffe. Elphick took care of Cox last season, you may remember. With ease. At the County Ground, atleast! And for all but 15 minutes at the start of the second half at the Withdean.

Whereas you're yet to find a defender who can deal with Nicky Forster....  :D

Haha, Cuthbert? He's going to be going off in tears by half time or so. Murray and Forster will literally take him and Greer to pieces. I hope your gents are ready for this, if Bristol Rovers' front line can maul you, I see no reason why ours can't. On our day, we're decent. Just ask Southampton. Unlikely to be our day, but if it is...

Pah, I'll be heading along the County Road to the Station Road junction and just stroll along that way. My train isn't an early one, I can wait until your gents are done running ours up the Manc road.  ;D

;D I wouldn't expect anything else from an opposing fan. You have home advantage, and a clear lead over us in the league table, you're going into the game as favourites, but I'm pretty confident we'll get a result. A 1-1 would do me nicely, I doubt we'll keep a clean sheet with Brezovan in goal and I doubt you will either (Southampton was the last one, wasn't it?), especially if Lucas lets us score from 20 yards with as much ease as he allowed Sean Thornton.  :)

Either way, I have nothing but affection for Swindon so I don't really mind what happens either way. Obviously, I'll be going there wanting to win and hoping to see us perform but I'm realistic enough to know that it might not neccessarily happen.

I'm sorry, I don't count the FA Cup game at home to Woking, and I should have qualified that I meant, last clean sheet at the County Ground, which I feel is important considering you're playing there on saturday and not away.  :D

Also, I do believe you'll find it was 4-1 against Tranmere.

I'm not too worried about that, because you don't score many. You're good when ahead, and I think if you score first, and early, then you might go on and get a second but I doubt it. I think we'll draw 1-1 to be honest, but whoever goes in front won't lose. There won't be a turn around I don't think.

We didn't just get into the league (twice), we stayed there for a season aswell.  ;D

Sadly if you look at the table, you'd note BHA are shit at home, but reasonable away. Their away record is not too dissimilar to ours.  Of further interest is the fact after this fixture, it will leave us a trip to the Withdean away from BHA being the joint leading side with whom we've played most league games viz 100. The other being Watford who we haven't played for 10 years. Brighton edge the head to head by I think 3 wins.

So a difficult game ahead.

That's what i'm thinking. Fuck that old fat cunt Forster, their key player will be Brez. I suspect he'll hand us the win on a silver platter, at least i hope he will. I can see it now, Wilson telling the players to get the ball in the 18 yard box at any height and from anywhere and then feed off the Brez fallout.

Well, it was a thoroughly good game between two footballing sides, and one dodgy penalty aside, it would have been the right result. We both created good chances, your finishing was better than our hopeless efforts, I give you that, but you had the advantage of a good goalkeeper...

On the penalty, if that had been in the other box, you'd want it given for you so you can't moan when it goes against you. And the penalty we had at the CG last season was weak to say the least, so that's balanced out and I don't begrudge you getting that, nor do I think the referee was a wanker (well, I did at the time!).

Your winning goal was absolutely brilliant, I thought our goal was pretty special from a footballing perspective, great move, cross and finish. But your winner was even better, which is a bit disappointing!  :(

Douglas and McGovern were probably the difference, they were both magnificent. Your goalkeeper is much better than Brezovan, who hopefully won't play for us again now Michel Kuipers is fit again. As good as though Douglas was, I honestly thought our Gary Dicker (#18) was atleast as good as he was, if not quite so influential. He was brilliant, second half especially and I know the Don Rogers stand appreciated his tackling and dribbling skills.  :D

Also, I apologise for Adam El-Abd's pathetic "I've been headbutted!" dive midway through the second half, he really is a joke of a footballer if we're being honest and he's our liability, much like Lescinel seems to be yours!

Anyway, it was a good game and Idon't begrudge you the win, I'm genuinely pleased to see you doing well and I wish you all the best for the rest of the season, though you're going DOWN when you come to the Withdean.  :D

Merry Christmas everyone!  :bye:

Post by: Summerof69 on Sunday, December 20, 2009, 14:39:18
Brezovan is much better than Kuipers. Every Town fan I've spoke to have said exactly the same. Kuipers is a clown and I cannot believe he's supposed to be your no.1 keeper. Brez kept you in it in the first half, along with the crossbar, and he didn't have a chance with either goal.

The pen was a blatant two handed push in the back, which the ref saw from the half way line and I saw it from further back. Brighton played some good stuff at times but you had very little end product, and how El-Abd got away with not even getting booked I do not know.

I've seen worse sides at the CG this season, and I think 3 relegation places are already sorted for Stockport, Tranmere and Wycombe unless a miracle happens.

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season (except at the Withdean...of course!!), and Merry Christmas.
