New Camcorder....opinions please!

I have a mini camcorder that I have owned for about 7 years that uses the mini tapes. I am thinking of treating myself tomorrow and buying an up to date replacement, preferably with at least the following.....

Compact
Min 10x optical zoom
Flash card recording
Min 2mb stills
Stereo sound
1080

Does anyone have experience with a modern camcorder or any suggestions / recommendations?

Do people still use camcorders?

Thought it was all about Flip's and iPhones nowadays - they both do video in HD so quality shouldn't be an issue. You can even edit it and upload it on an iPhone (imagine other phones can do the same). What's the advantage of a camcorder?

Quality's about a lot more than just pixel count. No way you can get the same quality off a phone (especially the shit cameras in iPhones) you do off a half-decent digital camera/camcorder
