Only in the world of cricket, could you have an opening ceremony followed by a day off.

Not really, it's because teams needed to have time to travel back from the opening ceremony in Jamaica to the respective islands across the Caribbean where they will play their group games

Could they not just have played the first game in the same place as the opening ceremony, like the footie and rugby world cup?

hemps 76 not is the only decent performance from an englishman in the world cup to date

Hemp was born in and spent the first years of his life in Bermuda....so is he an Englishman?

nationality isn't necessarily limited to one country

however, hemp thinks of himself as an englishman - he didn't even think of playing for bermuda until dougie brown mentioned it to him, he also represented england 'a'

Good news that the Kiwis won,we needed it to happen!Even so i'm still not looking forward to our game Saturday, why is it that i never feel relaxed about England playing?I always feel like we are going to fuck up somewhere along the line :(  I keep on trying to gee myself up by thinking we don't want to peak too soon, but in reality i don't think we're going to peak at all!!Oh well, moan over

Sri Lanka V Bangladesh and Pakistan V Zimbabwe today.Be interesting to see the Sri Lankans play again, think they are the one Asian side who could win the cup.

Good win for the Pakistan on such an emotional day for them. Inzy last innings was a good little knock of 37 then go to see all the zimbabwe players shake him by the hand after he got dissmissed. Seeing him walk off after getting dismissed was quite sad. Still cannot belive Mohammed Yousuf got a wicket  . Sri Lanka demolished Bangladesh by 198 runs.

Aussies made 377-6 off 50 overs. Hayden got the fastest Wc hundred of 67 balls. I'd go for a RSA win chasing 378 to win they chased more down in Joburg last year.

aussies have got about 25 more than a par score and would have to bowl very poorly to lose from here

1st game of the super 8's today. WI vs Aus in Antigua. Should be a cracker. Also ICC have demanded that Cricket highlights from the world cup 2007 should be taken off youtube due to copyright law.

he's in great touch

but only powell out of the 4 new-ball bowlers in the last two games has bowled with any sort of consistency, and unless you get aus 2 down in the first 12 overs then one of them is going to go blitzkreig

He'd make an ace English bowler too Spuddy, he's exactly the sort of bowler we need. Someone who takes more than 3+ wickets in an innings on a regular basis, even if he can be expensive, and a genuine inswing bowler.

Yep, the WC has been highly entertaining so far :D
Shame the murder of Bob Woolmer is going to forever cast a massive shadow over the tournament and the game of cricket :(

West Indies V New Zealand today, feel a bit sorry for the Windies having to play again so soon. It'll be interesting to see how the Kiwis cope after their injury crisis.

I was enjoying it last week, loath to admit it but its dragging a bit now,i mean it could be me,but every time i turn it on it always seems to be either the West Indies or New Zealand.Least we're playing a couple of times this week, though i'm not sure how much fun that will be :(

Have to agree larwood, difficult to see any surprise results happening this week, all beginning to get a bit predictable after the shocks at the group stage.

We have to win at least one of our 2 games this week, and with the Aussies batsmen in such great touch, i can see them having a field day against our bowlers. Which leaves tomorrows game as a must win....

Cricket world cup is poor.  Especially when played in front of half empty grounds.

Crowds have been really poor. Tickets are $100 a monthly wage in Carribean. Lower the ticket prices and let the kids in for free to understand the Cricket in West Indies.

Agree with the tickets - probably less English there as many have had the winter in Aus too.  IMHO it was always going to be slightly inevitable that the results would be more predictable when the non-test nations made it thru.  It's great to see the small nations progressing but in the last eight it makes for fewer competitive matches than if perhaps India and Pakistan had got through.  Last four should be good - be nice to see a team beat the aussies, just for a change, and obviously out of principle.
