Title: New Contracts
Post by: kerry red on Monday, October 6, 2014, 16:10:30
I see Power has started initial discussions with Wes, Nat Thompson and Andy Williams.

Be good to get this sorted sooner than later.

I can envisage the scenario whereby Power persuades them to sign new contracts with a promise to let them go if they want to if we don't get promoted.

Would at least ensure we get a fee.

Good grief this is common sense, I don't know what to think.

Head for the hills, folks.

Depends if they want to sign or not.

They may fancy running their contracts down, moving on and pocketing a hefty signing on fee

We are used to the 'after Christmas' or 'once the season is over' line. The fact that the club are keen tells you that we want them to stay but expect interest.

I think most of us were expecting to see Williams leave once his contract was up.

I think a lot of fans wanted Williams gone...

Glad he's proving people wrong.

To be fair, I think fans only wanted his wages gone

I seem to remember quite a few branding him useless..

He's never been useless - frustrating though

I totally agree, I've been a fan of him since his first season here. He got a lot of unwarranted abuse, though.

Still think a lot of that was to do with his wages and the only PdC remnant left.

As an aside, I see more than few Traders fans are running scared of us ahead of the, hopefully not postponed, clash

That's bollocks. When he came back from injury he was absolute gash. He got stick because people knew what he could do and were pissed off that he wasn't performing. He got the same 'abuse' at Yeovil, prior to his injury, as they remembered his quality and he wasn't replicating it on loan.
For whatever reason he's back to his best and long may that continue.

On OTIB

Ta, just read it...

Their link to the Orient forum is quite funny... sour grapes?

Balanced views on there to be fair. I'd also agree with one of their posters Flint will score. Which end is the question though.

I've noticed the fact....although wouldn't say it's a false position, rather it's too early in the season to place too much meaning on the table....which applies to all teams.

Would it really be a big disadvantage to play the game without Smith, Mass and Kasim.

Bell looks more than adequate cover for Smith and Reeves/Gladwin for Mass/Kasim isn't too shabby

I like how the thread ends on an argument containing a map with Wiltshire highlighted in red..

So, when do you get excited about it, Reg? What's your cut off point when our form stops being a flash in the pan?

I thought the OTIB thread was quite balanced, or even leaning in our favour.

The only that will happen is if we didn't want it called off and I can't see that happening.

I also can't believe how balanced that OTIB thread was, way more praise than I would have imagined.

It's not right.

Where is the catch. There is always a catch, right?

Think get Christmas out of the way, and then things take shape....by way of example after 10 games last season Orient and Posh were 1 and 2....neither went up, however Brentford, who were 1 point and place better off than us in 11th did.

Carlisle and Shrewsbury, who were 2 and 3 points worse off in 14th and 15th respectively got relegated.

When relegation is a mathematic impossibility... :-[

Yes. Our bench would be empty. Why not go into the game with all 6 available if possible!

I love these......

from City fans....they have to be shitting me!:

'Their fans have a habit of making out they are better than they are'. REALLY!?

'The great thing about Swindle is that self-implosion is never far away'. REALLY..YOU ARE A CITY FAN ...RIGHT?! NOW WON ANY LEAGUE TITLE SINCE THE FIFTIES?....

However...Fairly balanced views there from the traders...

their comments about us overspending do make me laugh...how many million minus last year?
And perhaps they have forgotten about their little bankruptcy episode

I ignore Bristol City fans most of the time, as they generally tend to be the more deluded of fans in the Football League. Nothing wrong with us enjoying a little upturn in form, as it wasn't expected. City, however, have spent and spent big, and given the vast sums Lansdown has injected (and we overspent?!) first in league one is the absolute minimum they should be.

It's still way too early though. I'm enjoying it, but trying not to get too ahead of myself. The only downside is that when form does turn sour our fans will really get frustrated due to the heightened expectations.

Bristol City fans are the most deluded bunch of simpletons on the planet. They've never won fuck all yet they pat their egos constantly about what a big club they are, despite being from by far the most under achieving footballing town or city in England.

The shite they spew is nothing new, I expect it now.

They dont realise how lucky they are really.

They have the perfect owner.  A rich fucker who loves the team, wont piss off until he snuffs it and doesnt care how much he spends on them.

Out of interest is that new stand likely to be in place for our game down there?  It will be fucking shit if it isnt and we get about 500 tickets.

I like how the thread ends on an argument containing a map with Wiltshire highlighted in red..

The fact that STFC are the only West Country club, to have won a major trophy, or been in the Premier League, must irk the Slavers, hence the balanced views....a chip on both shoulders.

Well there is nothing there at the moment, and as soon as there is i believe they will be knocking down another. So unlikely
