Some people actually believe in it, as in it's a night for real witches and shit.

Hallowe'en is shit. Its not about the fancy dress, it's just an excuse to let your kids go out begging. It can fuck right off back to America. Victor Meldrew! Our rule to our kids is if it's got Halloween decorations/pumkin outside it's fair game. If it hasn't, leave it alone.

Although not pagan, I've always been fascinated by the vestiges of an older pre Christian religion to be found around our islands. The marking of the passing of the seasons, does come from very early times, and Halloween is just that, an important cyclical event, now put to modern use, as people lose contact with the real world.

Where I live, kids literally get trucked in from other neighbourhoods, and evn on trailers behind the trucks. I had to make a quick dash to the shop to get more sweets. To be fair, out little one loved it - he dressed-up and handed the kids the sweets. I imagine it is a bit more fun knowing you can sit out on the porch in 70 degree heat during the entire two hour process. We even had a police car set-up at the end of the road to make sure the traffic and people all behaved themselves. It was almost like a planned event.

I love the young kids coming round with the mums and dads always a good laugh. Always have sweets or fruit for them. The more effort they make in getting rigged up the more i’m prepared to let them have. Reminds me of when my lad was small and we went round the neighbourhood with his Halloween bucket, kind of nostalgic. May even get dressed up myself, git a vampire outfit I used a few years ago at Centre Parcs Elvedon Forest.

That's what we used to tell ours, that and people that they knew. FWIW, I can recall going trick or treating as a youngster and that must have been nearly 40 years ago

I'm with you. Can't stand the whole thing. Mind you, being a pathological arachnophobe doesn't help. There are some shops I can't even go in this time of year.

There is also something a little wry smile raising to see a nation, and region, so steeped in Churches and putting on their Sunday best, to get so carried away by something so opposite!

A Bristol City fan telling me this morning what an incredible achievement it is them reaching the League Cup quarter final, and that we could only ever dream of achieving something such as that. He must be missing the year 1969...

We’ve got a couple of Semi-Finals too.
I still dislike Bolton.

They all seem to miss the year 1982 also for some reason
