Title: Re: Villa Post by: Red Frog on Friday, May 29, 2015, 16:37:01 Frankly, who cares about friendlies? Other people. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Ells on Friday, May 29, 2015, 16:42:01 Villa can't even drum up much excitement from their own fans so I can't see how ours will
Mind you a pre season friendly is a pre season friendly  Title: Re: Villa Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, May 29, 2015, 16:44:14 Frankly, who cares about friendlies? I like friendlies, especially if they're against an unusual opposition and as will be the case this year, we've a stack of new players to cast the eye over. After a decent break, a nice relaxing way to spend usually a warm summer evening before a few beers. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Nemo on Friday, May 29, 2015, 16:49:32 Just made the mistake of reading the comments on this on the official FB. Christ on a bloody bike some people are miserable. The only redeeming feature is Tails trolling them.
Title: Re: Villa Post by: bigbobjoylove on Friday, May 29, 2015, 16:58:19 I like friendlies, especially if they're against an unusual opposition Hoping we can get a Sporting Gijon or someone at the County Ground again. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Wessex Warrior on Friday, May 29, 2015, 17:55:51 Get Napoli, Roma, Juventus or one of those other sides we stuffed in the old Anglo Italian Cup, and I might turn up
Title: Re: Villa Post by: THE FLASH on Friday, May 29, 2015, 18:00:19 I'm away on a fishing trip..
Was looking forward to coughing up £20 to sit in the TE and get the buzz back. Just have to make do with FGR and Supermarine. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Batch on Friday, May 29, 2015, 19:06:17 still maintain the best friendlies are in the arse end of nowhere. calne, that sort of thing.
though as reg said there will probably more interest then normal in new players. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Reg Smeeton on Friday, May 29, 2015, 19:06:44 Hoping we can get a Sporting Gijon or someone at the County Ground again. Some years back, I remember when Real Oviedo, then a La Liga club, were staying at the Marriot, and nipped into the Croft, for a spot of training.....however I'd booked the pitch, so had to tell them to fuck off :) They were playing Rovers and Port Vale, so obvious why they wouldn't have wanted to stay there. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Mother Brown on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:35:39 still maintain the best friendlies are in the arse end of nowhere. calne, that sort of thing. Best pre season has to be the tournament in Nieuwdorp, when beat the mighty Fc Arnhem.though as reg said there will probably more interest then normal in new players. Steve White nicked my beer. Think it it was 92 ish. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Costanza on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:39:28 still maintain the best friendlies are in the arse end of nowhere. calne, that sort of thing. Last summer I enjoyed listening to two Yate Town subs talking about Mass and the World Cup. Sub #1 "He didn't play though." Sub #2 "Who cares?" Sub #1 "Fair point." Conversation gold. Title: Re: Villa Post by: suttonred on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:41:13 still maintain the best friendlies are in the arse end of nowhere. calne, that sort of thing. Hampton and Richmond (twice) and last season Bromley generated more anecdotes amongst the London lot, than all of the other pre season matches ever (since 2000 anyway) have ever done.though as reg said there will probably more interest then normal in new players. Haha my favourite comment is "hello are we selling yasser kassim to Norwich City answer please" I've purposely left out the capitals to make it more authentic even though it hurt my head Title: Re: Villa Post by: Not that Nice If I'm Honest on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:46:45 About 20 years ago I got fined £1,200 for an incident at Villa Park.
Can anyone beat that ? Title: Re: Villa Post by: woolster on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:51:43 No, well done
Title: Re: Villa Post by: Batch on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:52:56 About 20 years ago I got fined £1,200 for an incident at Villa Park. Not quite, but they did lead me to getting a free orange juice and lemonade from my GCSE English/PSE teacher. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Mother Brown on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:56:36 About 20 years ago I got fined £1,200 for an incident at Villa Park. Never been to Villa Park, got ejected from Vicarage rd though. Can anyone beat that ? Walk of shame through the allotments. Title: Re: Villa Post by: suttonred on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:59:11 I wet myself whilst sleeping on the A4 at Newbury after having my drinks spiked when I was a teen, the attempting arresting officer was delighted until he saw the result of said spikes. £0 fine, and not even a lift home the bastard. So a no from me also, as that's about as hard core as I've been.
Title: Re: Villa Post by: Ardiles on Friday, May 29, 2015, 20:59:26 About 20 years ago I got fined £1,200 for an incident at Villa Park. Can anyone beat that ? Friend of mine accidentally threw a hot dog on to the pitch that day, but got away with it. But his luck ran out at Loftus Road a few years later when he repeated the move and got ejected. What did you do to get fined £1,200? Title: Re: Villa Post by: suttonred on Friday, May 29, 2015, 21:03:59 Friend of mine accidentally threw a hot dog on to the pitch that day, but got away with it. But his luck ran out at Loftus Road a few years later when he repeated the move and got ejected. What did you do to get fined £1,200? Old age, and memory etc. I did throw a hot dog sausage on the pitch at orient in a cup game in the late 80's Fraser slipped on it when taking a goal kick. It got mentioned in certain circles last week again... Title: Re: Villa Post by: Not that Nice If I'm Honest on Friday, May 29, 2015, 21:26:06 Friend of mine accidentally threw a hot dog on to the pitch that day, but got away with it. But his luck ran out at Loftus Road a few years later when he repeated the move and got ejected. What did you do to get fined £1,200? It's a long story, most of it was a fine, some of it was compensation. Bit of a confrontation, got grabbed from behind spun round with an elbow - it was a copper(didn't realise) - broken nose - then, as you did in those days, I felt the full force of the law. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Ardiles on Friday, May 29, 2015, 21:42:50 It's a long story, most of it was a fine, some of it was compensation. Was this before or after we got humped 5-0? Not a great day, then. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Gerinthere on Friday, May 29, 2015, 21:46:32 About 20 years ago I got fined £1,200 for an incident at Villa Park. Can anyone beat that ? I got arrested and charged for swearing at the referee there in our only premier season (or was it div 1 then). Got a bindover to keep the peace at the subsequent comedy trial. Title: Re: Villa Post by: 4D on Friday, May 29, 2015, 21:52:20 still maintain the best friendlies are in the arse end of nowhere. calne, that sort of thing. I saw Calne spank Brizzle City 2-1, many moons ago. City had about 7 first teamers on at one point :) Title: Re: Villa Post by: Power to people on Saturday, May 30, 2015, 10:55:34 Didn't Power say the friendlies will be Villa, Liverpool & Everton and it will be their first teams playing not reserves - hopefully decent ticket prices as well as all money goes to stfc and the day trippers will come out in force for 'pool - hopefully something like £15 a game or £40 for all 3 games.
Still a lot for fans to spend on friendlies though but with the quality of opposition should get bums on seats and plenty of day trippers. Title: Re: Villa Post by: Peter Venkman on Saturday, May 30, 2015, 10:59:42 I saw Calne spank Brizzle City 2-1, many moons ago. There were a few hundred Town fans there but all stood on the same side as te camera! I remember Charlie Henry scoring a cracker and we invaded the pitch at the end for some unremembered reason.Appears to have been the clubhouse, from this video. Title: Re: Villa Post by: kerry red on Saturday, May 30, 2015, 11:54:28 Wasn't there a huge punch up at the Kassam when the yellow fuckers played Villa in a friendly.

Title: Re: Villa Post by: Jamiesfuturewife on Saturday, May 30, 2015, 19:13:18 Oh my god that videos amazing - I grew up literally a 5 min walk from the Calne ground
It looks so different now - not the ground itself but with the huge housing estate behind it?! Ahhhhhhhh nostalgia!! :D Title: Re: Villa Post by: 4D on Saturday, May 30, 2015, 19:30:47 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbuQrY9X-8o Appears to have been the clubhouse, from this video. Me too! Had some happy days in Calne and following Calne Town. Remember the North Star club? A couple of mates and I used to watch Calne on days when Swindon were away. Haven't been back in some years now though my brother still lives near Calne FC ground. Title: Re: Villa Post by: RedOx on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, 10:49:29 There is a video from the other side that shows that when he gets through he gets pummelled by the Pox. That explains why he looks a bit dazed on his way back and people are directing him away. Think they thought that it was little old Poxford but he bumped into some lads on the other side, who stood their ground.
