Fair play to them, just shows that not all pox fans are knuckle dragging morons.

(Although most probably are).

See, I don't mind stuff like that.  It's a laugh.  It's the lobotomised, 'we took your end in 1971' bollocks that makes me want to poke my own eyes out.

There's actually a football-related discussion on there this evening as well, which is novel...going in to the tactics they might use to counter the threat from our wingers.  Imagine that: talking about the football in the week before the derby game!  There is hope, maybe, after all.

They talk about "1971" etc, because in those days, from what my brother tells me, Oxford were a bit crazy.

My first Oxford game was the "smoke bomb" game in the 80's. My recolection was being in the Town End and there being zero Oxford fans in there. There was a big ruck on the Magic R'bout afterwards, and from what I saw, there was no clear "winner" in that one. From that point on, the balance - in my view - swung the other way. We didn't play each other much for a few years, but there were occasional incidents when fans of both teams met and Swindon always came out on top - one incident at Banbury saw a full scale ruck, which Swindon fans won decisively.

My point is, that many years ago, there was a bit of "fear" around going to Oxford, but that has gone. They are doing their best to wind things up for this one, but..............if Swindon had been given a reasonable amount of tickets, it would not be a problem.

It might be a bit dodgy this Saturday, because the allocation is so low, but that is a false situation.

The man is a cunt, even without his footballing preferences, get a picture and expose him for the prized tool that he is.

If i could bring myself to do it I would join that awful forum and ask him where he sat at Swindon so we can get the area sanitized.

Better be careful what i say though, we dont want them 'taking the Town End again'.

That Eric fella seems to be the cunt in chief, Poxfords answer to Ray Winstone, one kick in the kidneys and the old bastard will be licking pavement pizza.

Three points please, then we can shift our focus back to promotion and Wembley

You  have to smile at the rivalry.
Being an Oxfordshire lad (middle aged old git) I was always brought up with Swindon and Oxford lads. As with all football fans you get the different types:
1. Loyal Supporters, go to games laugh, sing, drink - just love the football and the rivalry banter but no aggro.
2. The same as (1) but with aggro.
3. Happy go clappers who go when they want to and in most cases they used to go lots but gave up being a Supporter.

We have all come across all types no doubt. I have met all types (1-3) from both Oxford and Swindon and have to say that I have some friends from the dark side who follow Oxford like me home and away and are decent lads.

Unfortunately both Clubs have that "element" who will talk about their victory's off the field (of course most of the time adding in what they want to have happened and much more) ...........who gives a f**k about their story's or their exsitence.

I am so nervous about Saturday as I always have been ever since the mid 70's. The thought of losing makes me feel physically sick. It is the big one for me and the most important game in my football calendar. I want to win so much.
What ever the result some banter will be exchanged between a few Pox lads I know like it always has.

Watching England last night at Wembley I started to get excited not because of watching England but because we will be there in 3 weeks time.
However as the screen behind the goal highlighted shots from the crowd they zoomed in on a yellow Pox top and once again it made me want to win again Saturday.

Will I sleep well Friday night ? probably not.

At least Di Canio knows how I feel about beating them down the road lets just go there and do it. I would even take a draw. The banter for me now has officially stopped. No more internet postings on any site. The build up has started.
Finally just accept that they are obsessed by us. They always have been and always will be - That just adds to why this game is special. Credit the Pox though their hatred for us is stronger than ours.

Great post Duke!

I think the site of them celebrating like they had won the world cup at the fortress back in August is enough to make anyone feel sick, especially if it happens again this Saturday.

I am nervous, but confident about Saturday I just don't want to lose...I won't sleep Friday night knowing it's an early start so to compensate heading down the pub after work tomorrow to 'calm the nerves'!

Been there, seen it, done it, got the f*cking t-shirt. Also got two kids.

All of these billy big bollocks c*nts who are so brave, and so witty on the internet, wouldn't have dared pop their heads above the parapet back in the days before segregation, when it was every man for himself, no OB to protect you if it came on top.

This is why I, and many others of my generation hate the six fingered, web footed, hunch backed, sister shagging, banjo boys from Wiltshire...........they are all f*cking talk, and no f*cking walk!!!'

Eric's kids must be so proud! I think he should seek anger management.

Been chuckling at this for ages - the guys an idiot.

To put it straight I thought I'd tell it how it was from someone who was actually there.

As with all matches in those days the opposition fans always arrived early and got in the town end therefore 'taking over' the Townend.

The Town fans on derby matches would generally enter the ground via Stratton Bank or Shrivvy road and gather at the corner of the Town End and Shrivvy Road. When enough Town fans arrived they would push into the Town End
and force out the opposing fans who would generally end up on the pitch to be escorted to Stratton bank or pushed to one side of the Townend.
This is exactly what happened with Oxford except because of the amount of them they were only pushed as far as the bog wall and the Police then formed a line seperating the two sets. I guess that any Oxford fan in the Townend at the time wouldn't realise that they had in fact only occupied half the stand come kick off.

Both sets of fans had enough nutters in those days and generally both sets of fans gave as good as they got.

This quote is the best part though;  "All of these billy big bollocks c*nts who are so brave, and so witty on the internet, wouldn't have dared pop their heads above the parapet back in the days before segregation"
He's obviously talking about himself.
If he is who he thinks he is then he would be posting on the SAS site not the yellow belly forum.

BTW the only times in the early 70s I remember the Townend being fully taken over by the opposition was by Arsenal in 72 and Sunderland in 75

And Ayr United pre season friendly - 6 pissed up jocks scared the bejezzus out of the TE in the late 70's / early 80's.

Only time I recall a full TE clearing was when Millwall charged just before KO from Stratton Bank straight across the pitch-1973. One bloke sounded a bugle charge and over loads went......it was like the 7th cavalry charging....! TE cleared in a flash apart from a few hardy souls. That season I was a ballboy and was right by the tunnel. Was one of the few games we didn't get in for free then bunk over the stand to watch the matches.

Oxford used to have one, until the chap, whose name and address it was registered under, was up in court on hooligan charges. He denied being a hooligan and the site mysteriously disappeared shortly after. Funny that.

My Dad told me a story about some lads (can't remember the team) running from the bank towards the Town End, all but a couple of them got stopped by few coppers and dogs. The couple that didn't get stopped carried on running on their own giving it wankers signs to the TE until they suddenly realised just outside the penalty area that they are all on their own.  :D
Cue much amusement in the TE

That season I was a ballboy and was right by the tunnel. Was one of the few games we didn't get in for free then bunk over the stand to watch the matches.

What is this, the charge of the fookin light brigade?

Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of the county ground
Ran the six hundred.
"Forward, the 'wall!
"Charge for town end
Into the valley of county ground
Ran the six hundred.

North stand to right of them,
South stand to left of them,
Town end in front of them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they ran and waddled
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Ran the six hundred.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our Swindon dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest Swindon.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Swindonians,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in Swindon, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Paolo, Swindon, and Saint Don!'

I remember that. The scariest thing, for me, was that they weren't your average hoolies, they were all 30 and 40 year olds - probably dockers - who just looked bigger and bigger as they got closer. Like something out of Zulu.

The Town End got taken by Leicester too, they popped up in the middle of us, maybe half an hour before kickoff, all boots and braces, and chased most of the Town End right round to the far corner of the Stratton Bank - it got proper nasty - some of the Town Enders were trying to climb out of the ground to get away from them!

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread. Normally I quite like living in Singapore but tomorrow night I'm sure I'll hate it. It's always been so hard to describe the Swindon Oxford thing to outsiders so the empathy is comforting. I was never much of a scrapper but loved the fear and the loathing. I once copped a hefty golf ball in the back whilst getting on one of those special escort buses outside the Spanner ground, that's the only time it physically hurt. Didn't matter because we'd just thumped them 4-2 away. So many great memories. Funny how the rivalry permeates our lives - I'm nearly 40 years old and still don't like the colour yellow; I hate teams who wear yellow and blue, I support Cambridge in the Boat Race even though I don't like rowing, and I still find it hard to believe that Radiohead come from there.

Come on boys.

Did you not know?  Thom Yorke is actually Eric Read.  Thats how he got the dodgy eye.  It was when some schlagggg cut him when he took the town end on his own whilst still fetal in 1967.  He still carried on though, despite the eye hanging out.

That was the one. Fitz had a great game and Big Dunc' celebrated his first in front of their end. Funny what you remember - I distinctly recall thinking Dave Bennett could easily be Michael Jackson on Stars in Their Eyes. I'd had a few to be fair.

Just looked on their forum and he is ranting again about what I wrote. Nearly everything the twat says could be referring to himself and I quote:
"The words "denial" and "selective memory" spring to mind"

I tried to register on their site to reply but they won't let me.  I know he comes on here so he will see this.

Tell me Eric, if you were there how many Swindon fans ran at your lot and started swinging punches with no reply and got right in the middle of your lot? It was like a parting of the waves. It only stopped with the coppers intervening.
And yes I was there, but unlike you I am telling the truth, there were no winners or losers that day.

Spot on old codger, I wouldn't waste your time on that site, Eric and Timmy have been keyboard warriors for years now and I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to a fellow town fan.

Only one disagreement from your post, you said there was no losers that day? Well Eric was a loser then and he's a bigger loser now, I really do feel sorry for him, maybe it's not to late to help "Eric the Red"

Most definately not. I am sane and have all my faculties! I was 15 at the time and remember it well, and unlike that twat I remember it accurately. I could tell you all sorts of things about various matches including Bristol City away in a pre season friendly that was meant to be played at Twerton Park in the early 70s but was cancelled because of all the fighting outside the ground, Newport away etc. The reason I remember this match so vividly is because someone I know closely was arrested for attacking the Oxford fans in the Townend in 73.
And the intervening years haven't been empty..... perhaps I just have a better memory than you do.
I was never involved in the fighting and see no place for it at football but if someone is going to brag about these things he needs to at least be accurate.
Anyway I think enough time has been spent on him and be honest, most of us look at their forum when people post up links.

God I'm glad it's a 12:00pm kickoff tomorrow because it means three hours less of all this "my black cat's blacker than your black cat" dick waving.  I can't wait for the game to be done, so we can concentrate on winning this god forsaken league rather than talking about who's mob of bellends did what to someone else's mob of bellends back in the day.

A win will be great, a draw would be acceptable and a loss would be dissapointing, but I don't know any Oxford fans, so life would still pretty much roll on as normal from about 2pm onwards.

Roll on Sunday and bring on the Daggers on Tuesday.
