Colin must be pretty pissed off, he's not having the best of times at the minute.  He didn't do too badly in December and to be sacked via a phone call from the Chairman in sunny barbados is pretty poor.  Billy Davies should be in for a good second half of the season.

Does Millwall's draw affect our fixture on jan 13th?

Title: Re: fa cup shocks
Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, January 3, 2009, 17:07:51
More than likely, yes.

Title: Re: fa cup shocks
Post by: Iffy's Onion Bhaji on Saturday, January 3, 2009, 17:08:54
They can play the replay a week after actually but probably won't. Must admit it was a bit silly arranging the fixture for the 13th with Millwall still in the cup.

Title: Re: fa cup shocks
Post by: Samdy Gray on Saturday, January 3, 2009, 17:10:29
Isn't it in the rules of the cup that if it goes to a replay then it gets played 10 days later by default? In which case, it'll be the 13th meaning our game will be re-arranged again.

Title: Re: fa cup shocks
Post by: Hexagon on Saturday, January 3, 2009, 17:13:07
Didn't they say there was another date arranged if Millwall went to a replay.

In fact it will now be played on Tuesday 17th February.

Hartlepool 2-0 Stoke. Think that's a result as well.

It is. We were due to play Hartlepool at home on FA Cup 4th Rd day so that will be another postponment, at least it will be a midweek re-arranged game at home rather than away.

Title: Re: fa cup shocks

what's the score in HD? does it highlight keane's inability to hit a cows arse with a banjo?

i think preston were hard done by in that instance, parkin was raped on that freekick...amazing how the linesman didn't see him being wrestled to the ground by carragher but did see him put two hands on carraghers legs to stop him getting up...

On a side note, thought Deepdale looked a tidy stadium from the TV pictures (not having been there myself like) and the sort of ground we should be looking to develop the CG into idc. Sounded a reasonable atmosphere (if you count booing Gerrard as atmosphere) from the old goggle box.

20m and they are top of the league with him out. His movement and awareness is 2nd to none. If they win the league then money well spent. Keane will end up scoring goals

I think Preston must now be the proper club, who we've not had a game against for the longest time...must go back to 85/86.  Then we played them in Div 4 and they were just about the worst team I'd ever seen...had the present system been in place they'd have fallen into non league.

In fact we've only had 4 fixtures in the last 30+ years.

I went up to the game at Deepdale when we stuffed them 3-0 the day after my 20th birthday, they were dire the ground was appalling in those days, all wood and rotten, poor fans too with no vocal support.....times have changed a lot.

Charley Henry ran then ragged that day.

Surelythese kind of results now happen so often, they can no longer be described as "shocks".Now if every higher placed side were to beat their lower placed counterparts-that would be a shock

Reminds of a season we played at Blackpool..they had an old wooden away stand behind the now vacant goal....think we drew 1-1 but remember thinking Blackpool were in a dire mess at the time.

We always seem to draw 1-1 away at Blackpoo..but I think the time you are thinking of was the Bank Holiday game under Muckmarn, we took loads up there and the place looked like a building site.

I miss the old shit grounds a bit, these new grounds all look good but the atmosphere seems to be worse in virtually all of them, give me a tight crappy ground, with some cover to make it sound louder and a bit of banter with the natives!

Title: Re: fa cup shocks

Walsall away used to be good under cover in the corner,Aldershot also, even Colchester on the old floorboards on a Friday night always seemed atmospheric.

You are obviously a fair bit older than myself!

True, I'm afraid, Bert Head was manager when I started following the Town.  First real memory was Don Rogers destroying West Ham in the F.A. Cup with Moore, Peters and Hurst in the team.

John Trollope didn't get enough credit playing in the same team as Don.  Those two almost had ESP.

It's a great pity that most of Don's goals  are not available in video.  You used to see the alleged goal of the season and laugh, Don used to score incredible goals every three or four games.

Sadly I just caught the end of the mid 80 early 90s gravy train and all the downhillness since.

Although I can I've seen us play in every division and I must have seen us play nearly every single league team. Alot of L1 teams on other forums like to take the piss out of us for our one season in the premiership but its better than to have got their once and been shit then to have never got there at all!

I do think its ruined our expectations a bit though because dont we all think deep down somewhere, right at the back of our minds it could happen again?

Better than being a Cheltenham or a Yeovil where mid table L1 is what they strive, wish and hope to be I suppose

That's the fixture of the round in my opinion.

It'll be Derby's 2nd defence of the Brian Clough Trophy.

I had a look up at the records and back in 1975 we played them twice in the league within the
space of 3 days.We won 1 - 0 at the CG with the great Peter Eastoe scoring and lost 2 - 0
at Deepdale 3 days later.I can't remember ever playing the same team in successive league games,

Freezing Cold Monday Night
Watching the overpaid Premiership players have to play in a tiny little ground
Possible Chance of a huge FA Cup shock
Managed to hold out until half-time...
