The descriptions so far remind me of Jonathan Smith. Anyone else?

Interesting from a couple of years back.

http://www.skysports.com/football/news/12691/8818623/Stevenage-midfielder-James-Dunne-attracts-Championship-League-One-interest

I specifically like this bit...

Quote
Dunne enjoyed a stellar season with Stevenage last term and was named Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year at Broadhall Way.

The former Arsenal trainee established himself as one of the best midfielders outside the top two divisions after impressing for last season.

Absolutely. Does this means we won't be signing Etuhu I wonder? Sounds like a similar sort of player (although I stand to be corrected by Chang)...

Conor Thomas once attracted interest from Liverpool.

I don't expect to have heard of any of our signings... which isn't a problem. Traditionally, the reason for rocking up at a pre season friendly is to run the rule over newbies and trialists. The problem is we don't have too many friendlies yet, and trailists can be Dossevi deceptive....

Don't think Conor Thomas ever got player of the season though.

Not the football club, surely.

Needs must to do whatever it takes to get out of this division I guess.
If the manager can mould a group of (what might in the main be) journeyman cloggers into an efficient machine that wins football matches, then it's job done.

Hopefully there will be room in the squad for a couple of players who can add a bit of flair and excite the fans.
(Even better if they can also run around and kick people as well).

TBH, some of the players Lou signed in Division 4 were hardly well known. Peter Coyne was one who would have been readily labelled, meh, today - but he did his job.

'Every side needs someone like him, someone who isn't a flair player but will work his socks off in every game. I would've kept him too, and truth be told I don't think I know any U's fan who wanted him gone.'

'Good engine too, keeps running and running. Agree with Svh, I'd have kept him too though we've signed two in his position this summer so not surprised he's gone.'

'Good combative defensive midfielder. I would have kept him but it would seem Derry thought he could get better.'

'He can't play all that much but gets stuck in and does the ugly stuff.'

Sounds ideal.

He bought Kenny Allen in goal, a massive keeper who commanded his area and could catch any cross chucked into the box, exactly what was needed, Lou saw what we were up against and it bought players in to counteract the opponents, it worked.

Coyne was a big prospect at Man Utd where he was going to be the next big thing then went non league with Hyde Utd and scored loads but Lou remembered his potential and he was perfect foil for Colin Gordon up front, we signed good solid Div 4 players who all got fit and played as a unit.

I hope the same will happen this year.
