I was at that  match, remember it well.

Hammond was superman that day. Quite how West Ham didn't batter us is beyond me.

I seem to recall Chalkie having a hand in the free kick.

Me too. There was a flash of lightning and then we scored with a double deflected free kick. All very surreal.

Chalky put the ball through to Ling, and George Parris brought him down right at the edge of the area....

Something like that

And Chalky had just been bought off the bench.

Hammond's Swindon career for me consisted of those two games against Barnsley and West Ham on consecutive Saturdays when without doubt he won us 6 points. We were utterly, utterly battered in both games.

Sadly though, I will remember him more that abomination against Peterborough. And it wasn't a one off either. He did an almost identical thing against Torquay in the Cup. I for one was very please indeed when we finally got rid of him.

He also did this against Watford in 87, not as bad as the above two though....

I saw a few good performances by Hammond.

I saw several dozen bad performances by Hammond.

Nowhere near as good as Digby. Glad when we got rid of him.

That West Ham game is one of my favourite ever away games, thanks in no small measure to Hammond. Ironically, Peterborough would have also been one of my favourites had it not been ruined by Hammond.

It was Ipswich
Probably them as well, but he definitely did an 'air shot' against Torquay. He just could not kick to save his life.

It was Ipswich and Torquay where he air kicked, Torquay we were 9-0 or 9-1 up on aggregate at the time so didn't matter but Ipswich we were 1-1 in the cup replay. Amazing he was with us for 8 seasons....

I don't remember the Torquay one at all but I do very much remember Posh and Ipswich, terrible, cost us points and games with such poor kicking.

Jebus. I'd forgotten that one, that sums it up. Couldn't even kick it past the half way line out of his hands!

Ah right, can't remember that one. He did the Peterborough and Ipswich fuck ups within a week or so of each other.

It was the second leg and we'd turned them over 6-0 down there. I think the second leg was 3-2. I'm sure I'm not dreaming it.
