I don't think Tesco's are great, I just used to work for them. They are quite good though.

And Lidl. Though Tesco's is the best. I normally do tesco online shopping, or get one of my housemates to drive me to tesco extra. You can't beat tesco's, asda is the only competition and there isn't one near me.

For dinner when it's coming out of my parent's pockets, Waitrose. When I'm hungry and want something to eat at lunch time, Tesco.

Only posh middle aged women shop at Waitrose, didn't you know that Boeta?

Not in the one I go in, there's never anyone in there. It's about two minutes away from my mate's house (and incidentally Jase's) which I get some sandwiches in before we go and play Pro Evo and whatever. It's a Tesco Express, not a big one mind.

I use the Co-op, because although they've got O*frod in the name......they do sell STFC stuff and  have done a deal or 2 with the club and have stickers plastered over some seats in the Arkells.

Plus they have ethical policies on trade and animal welfare etc, and as a member I get a vote in who's elected to run it.

Guess I must be.  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick

Why hasnt Didcot got a Waitrose yet? Thats what I demand to know.

Theres one thing I cant have though, I have never and will never buy the Mail or the Express. The two most boring papers of all time. I used to read all the tabloids on my paper round years ago and the Dailly Mail ran the same front cover every saturday.

I buy four different papers. The Sun, especially mondays for the football. The Star during the week because its a bit of fun, loads of nice birds, virtually no real news and soccer shots. Saturdays I buy the sport to take to the pub, once a week is just about right. Then the Times if there is actually something in the news that interests me or if Im off work and have some time.

You use the one in Abingdon then? They charge you to park there. Fucking rich bastards.

As for papers, I read The Sun if I'm bored and The Times if I want to read the news. I find both papers quite good for sport.

OMG - SUPERMARKETS!

I'm Art Editor of The Grocer magazine, so all day at work I've been designing this weeks issue. This involves a lot of pictures of Supermarkets and putting the journalists copy on page - which is also all about supermarkets.

I get home, come on here, and you've got a bloody thread started about supermarkets!

I can't get away from the bloody things  :?

Could suggest it to the editor (but won't as I kinda like my job!). Maybe Sonic could write a story about working for Tesco and DMR could provide a nice picture for the story.. Or maybe not Dave, eh!

We did do a feature on Non-Food at Sainsbury's in Chippenham a while back, a very informative and insightful look at the future of retailing in the UK..... the store had been spruced up to accomodate more Non-food items... I sent a photographer to capture the magic of Chippenham.. But he couldn't find any

I'd gladly write a piece about working at Tesco, but I doubt it'd be printable due to bad language and libel.

Although I shop there now, I'll never forget the 6am Saturday, and 7am Sunday starts to stack the bread when I was a student. Proper shite for £4.50 an hour in old money  :-))(

Now that's just wrong. Went in the Swindon one yesterday with me Mum, it's a right dump in there. The odd thing is the staff all look exactly the same as they do in Abingdon.

Asda's alright, tesco's stressed me out too much pre-Christmas, almost had a tantrum in there, all these old slags getting in my way, talking in the middle of the aisle, walking at 0.5 kmph, pissed me off big time.  I just had to get out of there.

my favourite in hong kong is Park 'n' Shop, which is strange because generally you can't drive to any of them.
they stock a lot of waitrose stuff though which keeps me alive.
i tend to steer clear of the steamed chicken's feet and boiled cow stomach.

ASDA for me as its not far from my house and is cheap as fuck.

Shame about the pikeys that shop/work there though. The plus side of that is it can be a good place to do some chav spotting

I worked in a supermarket about 10 years ago, never again.  Never realised people (usually women) got so stressed if we ran out of a certain brand of soap or something.

Post by: sonicyouth on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, 11:03:44
Not just women though, old men are just as bad. We ran out of 32 packs of paracetamol for awhile and this fella came up and ask for some, I politely told him we'd sold out of packs of 32 but he can go and pick up two packs of 16 for exactly the same price. He went off on one and had a right go at me for it, so I just walked off.

Some people are mental.

"some people are mental" SY

Some people are just stupid.  I hate customer facing roles, not paid great a lot of stress about nothing.
