Title: Swindon v Grimsby MoM Thread
Post by: Nemo on Saturday, September 30, 2023, 15:45:52
Three more points, third, one point off top with a game in hand, best goal difference in the division. Not sure I feel as good as that sounds but I'll absolutely take every part of that first sentence.

Kemp had the best moments, Khan the best overall performance for me.

Tough one, for me Khan and Dokes were outstanding, Kemp looked great in patches too, Brewitt made a few excellent defensive blocks.

Khan just edges it in front of Dokes I think.

Khan for me. Really got stuck in and broke the play up. A very mature performance from him.

Kemp with the notable contributions so a mention for him and also Brewitt who made some crucial blocks and interventions at the back.

A few out of sorts today and we didn't have our usual fluency but they say a sign of a good side is winning when not playing well...

khan with Brewitt second simply because of the importance of the blocks he put in

Exactly my thinking too.

Khan was difficult to shake off the ball and turned well (as we know) but hardly ever lost the ball or wasted a pass today.  He took a couple of heavy fouls early doors but, unlike last season, he didn't react and neither did he get suckered into making careless, heavy tackles himself.

Maturing impressively for an older pro who has only just completed a first year in League football.

Kemp is first to 100 votes this season.

Khan by a country mile.

Went for UGM as his surging forward was most noticeable. Although, his passing wasn’t that great!

Brewitt did well, but he left FBT exposed on his weak size for the goal.

I thought Khan drifted in and out. In fact, our whole midfield looked to be second best to theirs, and they snuffed us out for the most part. Although two moments of flair won us the game.

Dokes, Khan and Kemp stand outs today.

Khan gets my vote as he was superb and often seemed to find himself a bit of space and always looked to move the ball forward.

AFCON is going to be a kick in the balls…

Let’s hope Kinsella is firing by then.

Khan was excellent. We need to start getting some contracts extended. A few good performances today. Special mention to Kemp who is also so good and Brewitt who puts his head or body in the way of everything.

The match sponsors were the official supporters club so no surprise they actually chose Khan who was really good

Yeah Khan, apart from one skewed clearance, was faultless.
Had to vote for him as we share a birthday!
At 27 is there still room for improvement?
Would like to see him try some mid to long range passing in the air if he has that in his locker.

UGM's performance as rampaging centre back & auxiliary midfielder was fun to watch.
Always better to play people in their best positions but he looks versatile enough to be tried out elsewhere if required?

I voted for UGM, I just love his rampaging runs and he made some good tackles also. With that said Khan absolutely ran the show in midfield so completely understand why he got the most votes. Other shouts for Brewitt, who again was excellent and Mahoney for keeping us in the game.

Sadly Uwakwe was not at the races on Saturday, a shocking display. Charlie for me looked a bit laboured as well, I suspect he might need a bit of a break for the busy October schedule.

I voted Khan as well but I absolutely love me some Dokes. I'm pretty amazed we got him... could surely have gone to a club higher up the food chain...

Dokes is great but it's a very unusual skillset, I can kinda see why he doesn't get a lot of clubs looking at him. We have a few players that are very unorthodox, if you were doing data scouting looking for profiles they'd probably not come up. Like, who is looking for a centre back with an incredible skill in dribbling? Likewise Khan is a pretty non-standard skillset for a CM, you can tell he's been nowhere near an academy.

Many times on Saturday Dokes pushed himself into almost an attacking midfield position in the middle of the park and didnt look out of place there too. A few times he turned up sat just outside of the box when we were attacking.

He’s the sort of profile that a less adventurous at the back manager would probably play at RB/RWB

That was his main position at FGR he was used sparingly as a CB there.
