Always like seeing the old milestone markers when out on a walk. Sometimes they look as if they've been forgotten but part of that is the reason why they are still hanging around. Part of the charm.
I'm quite a fan of gravestones that have been in their place for a good time. The older the better. Ironic that these markers almost certainly will/have outlive(d) their inhabitant below (or above/elsewhere depending on your persuasion). Says a lot for how little time we really are around for.

I look out for the highwayman story on the stone between Devizes and Salisbury by the old Imber turning.

Definitely.... when the old turnpike roads were put in place, then it was a requirement to put in milestones, so if you find one hidden ina hedge or similar on an old track , you're on a turnpike. I found one recently out near Calne... on closer inspection it looks like a chunk of old turnpike, now just a track, between Chippenham and then the A4 near Avebury, there's even a Turnpike Farm where it veers off the present road. Love that sort of thing.

Nice to find one off the "beaten track" from time to time. Sometimes with a simple number etched and an arrow pointing in the next settlements direction. Not even an abbreviated place name. The following gives a historical look at one of the areas I grew up in. Always fascinates me that just one stretch of road can have so much history "etched" upon it, even in a nondescript small town. There's pits, railway bridges, tolls and more. Fill your boots Reg https://www.rdht.org.uk/nottingham-road/

There used to be a highway man outside Calne, on the road to Marlborough (near Yatesbury).

Spoke with somebody from a rather large SEO/marketing company today about providing content for them. It could really help get my business established if all goes well.

Switched on Channel 4 to watch The Secrets of Amazon, thinking it was an interesting documentary about the South American Rainforest. Only to find it's an undercover investigation to Bezos' Amazon.

My new whippet puppy Lemmy (as in Motorhead) running into my wife's workroom, hearing Adele and having a mad barking fit at the tape player. That's my boy

Our greyhound, a ferocious racer in his time, tip toeing around the stray cat that has made himself at home at our place!
