First game I've been to in a while, two things stood out for me....

Our fitness level made a massive difference and ultimately was what won the game. For the last 30 minutes Gillingham just weren't in the game, they may have had some chances but didn't take them where as we did. Over the last couple of seasons we've lost a lot of points in the last 10 minutes, where as this season we are winning points at the end. This is solely down to the increased fitness levels we have this season.

The team spirit is off the scale. You'd be forgiven for thinking we'd just won the World Cup given the way the entire team and every single person on the bench celebrated the first goal. Same at the final whistle, with the physio / assistant manager literally skipping off the pitch punching the air in joy. It's obvious they're in it together, working as a team and I don't remember ever seeing a Swindon Town team like it.

All of which is down to PDC. Never understood why the West Ham fans viewed him so highly, but I'm getting it now.

And also, I liked the tactic of the keeper sending it out to Ritchie from long kicks as their left back was a midget.  Ferry looked gigantic against him.  I checked on their website as I couldn't believe he was a grown up.  His height is stated as 5 foot 4.  We always claim a couple of extra inches though don't we.
Tried it once or twice on Saturday too. On the first occasion, the defender knew Ritchie was going to get past him if his touch was good so he just went in with his foot up on Ritchie's ankle... yellow card! Could well prove fruitful if teams aren't alert to it.

This Richards bloke sounds quite handy...

Quote
Almost immediately the Wiltshire side broke and Richards, worryingly in space down the right, saw his low shot saved by Flitney.

Swindon broke the deadlock with a stunning strike from that man Richards in the 78th minute that gave Flitney little chance as it flew into the top corner.

Yes but that's what happens...teams at the top tend to win most of their games.
Except when they play us...

Last night I witnessed the strangest thing I've seen for a while. Throughout the game the lino insisted on coaching the players and giving them advice. I can't believe an official is allowed to try and influence a game in that manner.

He was saying things like, watch it, be careful, don't be stupid, watch the ball, good pass, well done, keep your head up, well played, excellent ball...
