Hello. Seem to have a weird situation. on the iphone 5s i don't have the facilty to turn off my 4g. I am going to settings mobile data then data options but then it just brings up voice 4g but no option to turn this off when i don't need it.
Only way i am doing this at the moment is by turning off mobile data which obviously isn't ideal
Any ideas?

Why do you need to turn 4G on and off?

So i don't use data when i don't need to....... I think won't it just drop back to 3g and use data, just a bit less quickly.

Just looked on my 6s and I only have the option to change to 2G or 3G. Must be a network thing.
But as Batch said if you don't want to use data accidentally it's data you want to turn off, whether it's on 2/3/4 is largely irrelevant.

One thing they warn you about with the 5S (and presumably subsequent eds) is that by default it seeks a mobile signal when the wifi connection is weak. If you want to switch off that option, it's called Wi-Fi Assist, right at the bottom of the Mobile Data tab in Settings.

2G, 3G & 4G will all use the same amount of data, it's just how quickly content will load.
I believe.
So if you don't want to use mobile data at all, turn the whole thing off, you'll still use the same amount on 3G rather than 4G, just it'll take a few seconds longer.
*I could be completely wrong, but that's what I've been told*

no, you are right. think of it like a water pipe , a hose pipe will take longer to drain a barrel than a drain pipe. but you still drain the same amount.
Obviously if you are emptying an entire lake, and you are charged per litre, using a drain pipe will empty your wallet a lot quicker than a hose pipe in 24 hours.

You should get ordinary texts (SMS) and calls.
You won't get whatsapp, FB messenger, twitter notifications or the like unless you are on wifi.
