Title: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: flammableBen on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 06:36:37 No listening to the football for me. Well, might catch the end, if I come straight home without popping into the pub for a few.
I think we'll be looking at a score draw today. Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Ralphy on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 07:57:47 We will win 3-1.
Austin brace and a free kick from Sheehan. Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: DUNSWORTHY on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 08:23:20 I reckon wilson would have given them a right rocket after Tuesdays game, so there will be a huge improvement in effort and application 3-1 Town with Douglas ( yes Douglas!) Ward and Billy scoring.
Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Tans Wig on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 08:29:19 3-0 Town. Lucas hat trick (header, free Kick and penalty)
Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Anteater on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 08:32:24 2 - 1 Town (with Charlie back on the scoresheet !)
Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Ardiles on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 08:33:00 Must win today. I'd have settled for a draw had we not just lost the last two. Brighton aren't up to much, so we need to capitalise and re-establish a cushion between ourselves and 7th place. Without 3 points, that cushion will all but disappear today.
2-0 to us. Billy and Charlie to both find their scoring boots again. Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 09:11:29 We will lose. 1-0

A must win game today in my book. Looking at the run in I think we need to win at least three away games if we are to make the playoffs. As much as Leeds, Colchester and Millwall are difficult games I'd say we are capable of winning atleast one of them. We just need to get back on track. I expect he'll be fit enough to sit on the bench tuesday. Ward will be fit - but in truth maybe Marshall and Easton have played there way into a start in a 4-5-1 formation? Paynter maybe? Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Oaksey Moonraker on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 18:32:05 Big big result today, at half time it looked like we would drop to 7th with Huddersfield leading Norwich and with injuries today would have taken a point. Big turnaround in the 2nd half of today's game and surely Norwich have sealed auto promotion as now 12 points clear with 10 to play and 7 clear on Leeds. Leeds are maintaining the gap to 3rd and play Millwall at home a week Monday which could put them further clear.
The teams 3rd to 6th have bunched up again and we've put a 5 point gap between ourselves and Huddersfield, normal service resumed by Rovers strikers today and Franchise chucking one in injurytime after going 3-2 up moments before. Anything at Southampton is a bonus for us as they've won 7 at home on the bounce but how long do those type of runs last, 6-7 games is the usual and reckon we are due a shock away win somewhere. Hopefully today's results get's the momentum going for us again if we can cope with the injuries but sounds like a few have stepped up today with a Phil Smith clean sheet, Marshall playing well apparently and Easty doing a job. Bring on tuesday Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Reg Smeeton on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 18:33:33 Hey Reg, looks like Rochdale will escape The Rochdale Division. Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: Ralphy on Saturday, March 13, 2010, 19:12:28 Not really...we're a Div 3 club. Historically yes. In my lifetime of 28 years, we've been a divison 4 side, up to division 3, to division 2, a year in division 1, back in divison 2 for a few seasons, back to divison 3, back up to division 2, after about 4 years back to division 3, down to division 4 for 1 season and now back in division 3!! I like to think of us as a 'lower championship side'. Darby looked pretty decent in the 1st half, not sure about the 2nd half as he was too far away.
Marshall was excellent in the 2nd half, and from what I could see, our mom by some distance. Went past their defenders with ease, held the ball well and was very strong physically. I've always thought he had potential and he finally delivered today. I can see him starting some games before the end of the season. He really was that good. Thought we looked pretty good with Austin up front on his own. Felt right to join up on a happy day, or a bounce-back day, or a fuck-me-we-DO-have-some-on-the-bench-who-are-gonna-keep-the-standards-up day. I still have to keep going back to the table because I can't believe how good it looks after our recent results, and how it all looked at h/t. Despite being really chuffed about our season I was pretty depressed at MK on Tuesday, certainly in the first half. Vince is getting all the abuse but as a team we made it too easy for them in the 1st half - it was a walk in the park and I was really flat & underwhelmed. At least we earnt the right to have the ball 2nd half but still didn't look threatening til added time. I wouldn't have gone today anyway, been there a few times & that's more than enough, however I'm much more tempted to go to Stains (not a typo) now. Anyone know if we can pay on the night (surely we can)? The Mark Marshall lovers will come crawling out from under the skirting with comments like this. Bless them :) I've always said it about Marshall. When he first came here he looked like he had potential but he was way out of his depth, looked like a school kid going up against men in his first game. You could see an improvement in his last few appearances but he still didn't look anywhere near good enough and was well on his way to being released. He always seemed pretty lightweight before, not sure if he has put on some weight or beefed up a bit but against Brighton he didn't look anything like the player I'd seen before. Having said that I'm not sure I'd pay any attention to my comments on the game yesterday. I didn't realise until I got home that Ward had been substituted, luckily I found out before I said he was anonymous in the second half. Not sure why I didn't realise as I saw Easton but it still didn't click. In my defence, the view really was bad. Am I right in thinking Marshall's contract is up in the summer? Sounds like Wilson rates him, guess we'll have to wait and see how highly and whether he gives him a new contract. Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: mexico red on Sunday, March 14, 2010, 14:26:19 Can I just state and you can trawl past threads, I as in the King of Tonga have always, always, been a big fan of Mark Marshall. The bloke that gets it in the fruit-bowl is Stewpot from Grange Hill. Think he was in the next group after Tucker & Trisha's mob. Still does ads nowadays I think, he's a baldy but still looks quite young.
Anyone that went to Hereford on the Friday night that Ifil scored THAT screamer will remember how awesome Marshall looked when he came on (they must've remembered that when they took him on loan), he was truly on fire. I think I'd put it down to being a flash in the pan til yesterday, though it was also at the back of my mind that DW was keeping him round about the 1st team for a reason, and his judgement hasn't let us down so far has it. I thought 350-odd didn't sound enough - we'd take that if we were struggling. All the comments about the view, that's why I stayed away & chose MK & Stains instead. Been to Withdean a few times & it wasn't too bad at the other end but the current away bit is a piss-take. I'll wait until they've built the other 3 stands at Falmer. Think that wraps up the thread nicely. Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: ReadytoGo on Sunday, March 14, 2010, 22:34:12 The fact that we recognize that Marshall has had a good game is exactly the reason that we shouldn't jump on any of our player's backs. Pericard will have good games once he is established and shouldn't be written off after a few starts. Any player needs to show what he can do and then be put into the overall game plan. How good was Parkin in his first few games and how about Sean Taylor or Nicky Summerbee? I hate the instant response we give to each match performance.
Come on you Reds Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, March 14, 2010, 22:37:41 The fact that we recognize that Marshall has had a good game is exactly the reason that we shouldn't jump on any of our player's backs. How good was Parkin in his first few games and how about Sean Taylor or Nicky Summerbee? I hate the instant response we give to each match performance. You were obviously referring to Tim Parkin weren't you? ;)Come on you Reds You are right of course about the instant and often hysterical reaction to players' performances (not to mention the manager) This post from Saturday's match day thread illustrates it perfectly... "Sometimes i wonder what the fuck Wilson is doing? He act's clueless at times! Fucking Marshall? Ritchie would have been a much better option." And that's just after a 13 game unbeaten run has ended and we're sitting pretty in the play off places. Enough said. Title: Re: Brighton V Swindon town Official matchday thread Post by: HexEnduction on Monday, March 15, 2010, 08:09:16 Great 3 points.... the only downside for me was the continual lack of anything funny coming from the constantly babbling mouth of the big pissed bloke who looks like a duck (sat near the stag party). If any of you are the big talking duck - you're just not funny.
