You could be thinking of late 70's classic Children of the Stones although I doubt it.

You might want to be aware that it was a massive hit in the 70s and consequently has been used here there and everywhere.

Yeah we know. You can't argue that it doesn't sound like it should have been used as the theme tune to an iconic cop drama or quiz show though.

Maybe, but the middle bridge bit couple of bars doesn't quite fit with that. It's a bit jolly.
