Vigs was at his best during his loan spell... the season Power signed him we got relegated.
Although he did win player of the season the year we got relegated so was clearly at least half decent. If you offer a player new terms it has to be an increase, not only weekly wage but also loyalty bonus.
It has to does it? Really? Clearly, if you're genuinely hoping the player is going to sign it's desirable but surely we can "offer" what we like?

It's not uncommon for the keeper in a relegated or poor season to get PotY. So for example Rhys Evans in 05/06.... Mildy 00/01. Frank Talia 99/00.... Scott Endersby 83/84, our lowest finish since PotY was established. It happens because in a shit season the keeper gets a lot of shot stopping, which most are good at. The rules are that if you consider the player is worthy of a new contract then by definition he must have improved so that needs to be reflected... you can't attempt to undercut wages, by inferring that a player is worthy of a new contract, but you will therefore pay him less. If you don't offer the desired amount the player becomes a free agent.... like Preston last sesson. I guess if you've nothing better you could go back and accept reduced terms, but it doesn't seem to happen.

You only have to offer the same or better terms to a player under the age of 24, to ensure you get compensation. You can offer what you like to any player, then it's up to them to accept it or not.
Anyway, Vigs is already on the budget for this year, so it wouldn't make any difference who was offering contracts for him. Brown couldn't use his wage, just like he can't use Robertson's who has stuck around.

All perfectly valid points about PoTY but obviously Lawrence wasn't that bad as you implied (although no doubt you'll distance yourself from that). Yep and that's what will happen with Vigs if he doesn't sign. As Robert says you can offer what you like, you just might not get compensated. I'm guessing Simon Cox went back to Southend and accepted their reduced terms from his previous deal but I am guessing, just like you presumably are when it comes to Vigs' wages and new offer surely?!

I think you'll be hard pressed to find a keeper relegated from Div 3 to Div 4 who has then commanded a decent fee.
I’m not looking for one. You are the one suggesting Vigs was responsible for the relegation.

It's always best to read what is being posted.... the debate is about as to whether the aim to extend Vigs contract is a Brown move or a Power move. My contention is that it has all the hallmarks of a Power move, after all Brown had only seen him play once when the move was revealed When we originally got Vigs signed up Power even said he saw £ signs.... “He’s a bit of a wildcard and he’s one of those. We discussed that internally, that you could sell Lawrence one day for a fortune. However football being football, you're unlikely to get a fortune for a keeper relegated from Div 3 to Div 4. It is a fact that such things reduce a player's value, conversely being part of a promotion side will likely increase a player's value. Of our 16/17 relegation side only Luke Norris has commanded a modest fee, similar to what we paid for him.

Been told there are 2 still to come in, which rather points to Brown crying wolf for negotiating purposes.

Will Plowman be able to blame them for something?
