Title: Wembley Display
Post by: JayBox325 on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, 08:43:44
Hi all,

I know a lot of you have donated before for things and it's much appreciated! But I'm looking at a total of £6,000 for a wembley display and any fan donations would be very much appreciated. If all the regular posters on here donated between £5 and £10 we should be able to contribute a sizeable chunk.

Need to know more then see here: http://totalswindonsport.com/2015/05/local-businesses-asked-to-contribute-to-wembley-display/

If you can, please help here:

https://plasso.co/[email protected]

No worries if not, I'm sure some local businesses will be contributing, but I thought it would be more impressive to have a good chunk to be taken by Swindon fans themselves.

Thanks,
Jay

Also, the companies in Swindon that have already donated are as follows:

Beesleys Tools
SwindonLink
Total Swindon: Sport
SAS Travel
Barnes Coaches

There are 2 or 3 more ready to go on the list once I get confirmation. Feel free to go and give them a follow or thanks over social media. Give them some recognition for it.

Jay,

Good to meet you the other night.

Fair play to the adver for getting behind your Wembley plan.

The atmosphere for both games was amazing and a lot of that is down to you.

Take another bow !!

Time to get donating again !!

What's the mosaic going to say/show? Sure you've got it sorted, but a big version of the flag on Monday would be ace. Failing that, 'oxford United, forever in our shadow'

Been going to Town for 10 years and that atmosphere on Monday was up there with best I've seen along with Leeds at home, Charlton. Both Wembley games have been flat and disappointing (due to performance), honestly think if we can generate a similar attitude at Wembley as Monday night we have a much stronger chance. Top work Jay

I can just picture a bunch of tipsy 'daytrippers' trying to figure out how to pronounce "Allez allez allez oh" while the whole of block 111 sings it at 100mph with super fast, out-of-time clapping.

I'd suggest putting any extra towards additional materials like streamers etc, unless there's plenty already being purchased. The alternative is to save it in a pot for next season. Jay seems to have his head screwed on so I'm sure he'll use it well.

Be the apocalypse if it was tried. The Maths are: 30k swindon fans + 4 hours in the pub= about 10k balloons full of beery spit. Or worse, beery whizz., which are then used as water! bombs. It would happen..

I just got told that stewards on the turnstiles will be searching us for streamers after what they saw of us in the Semi Finals. They're not banned in the rules and regulations but they suspect they will be a trip hazard. Ridiculous.

So if you fancy taking some... sneaking them in is as good as you're going to get.

The good thing is that we are allowed flags on poles... so maybe we need a good thousand behind the goal... ;)

Other teams rent out venues pre Wembley, been to Watkins Folley and Silver Spoon for hired events pre Wembley games with Arsenal before now, we should do something similar, all fans can meet pre game and get into fine voice, I appreciate renting somewhere would possibly be not worthwhile but if not that then perhaps all fans who want to raise the atmosphere in the stadium all meet at a specific pub prior to the game? Singing pubs..? :pint:

Can we license the drummers? Won't be the same without them. They can sit next to me.

I know I'm going out on a limb here, but are drums really that bad? If we're talking about generating atmosphere, perhaps we need a few to rouse the Wiltshire masses into song. Why are drums the antichrist to the TEF?

I'm fairly sure those who hold their card up won't be throwing streamers at the same time. Common sense ;). But those above or elsewhere in the ground can throw them.

So if we're not in the streamer section... we can throw our cards to join in and be part of the moment?

there are some instructions. But either side that gets held up should work well enough.
Ha. I was more referring to when. Didn't even consider the possibility of holding card backwards. See. This is my point exactly. The permutations of getting this wrong are huge. 😊

Afraid not. The fans are thanked which is what we are. But the Town End aren't a business that's put in £500 from their profit margin to help it happen. I did think about it though.

Ok, so as the team comes out, I hold the card(?) up with one hand, throw the streamer with another, and click my heels together? This is gonna get confusing!

On a serious note, I assume that all of the seats will be sold where the display cards will be placed?...

As I said before... I'm not giving everyone streamers. I'm simply sorting the mosaic. If people have streamers it's up to them to either learn how to multi-task or just do one. Not hard.

If they're not all sold I'm sure that one missing card in each stand (which is how it's looking like) will be fine.

You can bring your own if you want but I'll be bringing some to hand out behind the goal after the mosaic. I might be talking to some people in the Tier above so they'll be given some hopefully.

If anyone is in the second tier, feel free to buy 12 or so and hand them out around you!

It's a bag because wembley didn't allow card because it's flammable and people make paper aeroplanes out of them so plastic is the only option and carrier bags are cheaper than plastic sheets. Besides, it's a free souvenir.

Be yet another thread on otib no doubt

RE: Nathan Thompson: my City supporting work colleagues still absolutely loathe the guy to the point that it's very funny indeed! As I point out to them, football has clearly changed when Nathan Thompson, Jack Stephens and Harry Toffolo are considered footballs evil, VILE, embarrassing villains. After the 0-3, one of said work colleagues waited to shout abuse at the Swindon players as they boarded the coach. Apparently a women shouted something abusive at Nathan Thompson and he responded back, I'm told it didn't go down too well  :bye:

RE: OTIB: I haven't been on there for a while but the last time I braved it there were a few City supporters highlighting the contradictions of the current hatred.

Statement: 'SWINDLE WE'RE SINGING VILE SONGS ABOWT FLINT. ITS EMBARRESIN.'
Response: We always sing similar songs about rival players.

Statement: 'GIT GLADWIN IN FROM SWINDLE HE LOOKS QUALITY'
Response: We slag them off all season for being diving, immoral cheats yet we won't stop talking about signing their players?

There's rationality in there if you look hard enough.

Yeah. I'll be moving over to the DRS next season. Can't wait.

I'm thinking of just spending £365 on foil sheets to display some stripes, alternating in Red & White from block to block. This way it doesn't matter if the stand isn't full. But I could try and team up with the Trust and work on a ticket initiative to fill out the stand more. But this is a good few months away ;).
