Post by: 4D on Thursday, August 27, 2009, 21:19:34
Attention TEFtechs!

I want to buy a DAB personal radio that also has FM, to take to games etc. Any recommendations / advice greatly received  :)
(I don't want to spend more than a ton)

I have to admit the first thing that popped into my head when I read your suggestion was an Aston Villa forum  :-[

I got one from either Asda or Tesco about a year ago for about £30. Works fine but rapes batteries. 2 decent AA batteries only last about 3 hours on it.

I bought one a bit like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/ATMT-MP170-Player-Radio-White/dp/B000IEQCCI

Don't bother unless you have a really really strong signal. It uses the headphone cord as an aerial to not very good effect.  It also eats batteries.

I did have a look but the threads I found were at least 2 years old (that could be down to my search criteria  :)).

I used to have a Roberts one about 4-5 years ago (present from the missus for exactly the reasons you want one), ate batteries but they all did back then. Apart from that, it was fantastic and apparently the newer models have greatly improved on power consumption. I managed to break it about 3 years ago and and replaced it with a Sony one for reasons I can't now recall but always regretted not getting another Roberts, far better

I've got a Pure PocketDAB 1500 which also has FM on it, they're about £80.

Never used it so don't know if it's any good.

Happy to help.

I've got a number of great ones off eBay from China for about £30. My last one was £30 and had 32GB, radio, video, games and loads of crap. Don't be tempted. I'm on my third, and if it wasn't for the fact that one's lifetime was measured in hours, I'd be on my forth.

You could look into getting another phone, most can do 8gb now and the sound quality is good enough with decent headphones.

I don't know if you are due an upgrade etc but just wanted to pass on the tip.

Alternatively, it may be possible to upgrade to an 8gb+ memory card and headphones for your current phone.

If you've already got a personal DAB why not just by an iPod?
