Very sad news. He was an excellent spotter of talent and could organise a team. Had the pleasure of speaking to him a few times and was a very blunt northerner but a nice and very straightforward bloke. A proper town legend.

We pulled into Finsbury Park on the way back from Peterboro a few years back just as the Arse kicked out. That was sung at full volume by about 30 of us. Rip Danny. An STFC legend

Thanks for everything Danny, RIP.
I hope that there will be something in Danny's memory arranged by the club.
March 15th, 2019, will be a fitting occasion to celebrate a life well spent.

Danny had a good innings.... shame he couldn't have made a century. People probably don't realise that although he came from the Rotherham school of hard knocks... the traditional route of from the pit into football straight after the war, the style of play he evolved was quite "modern" ... namely front 3, involving false number 9, holding midfielder, along with a water carrier, and over lapping full backs.
I remember when asked about the difference between living in the north and south... he replied "down south the birds sing, up north they cough"

RIP Danny. 94 is a damn good innings, a shame you won't be there on 16th March when a lot of the 69 squad (who remain) are from what i hear going to be at the County Ground, however you'll be remembered by everyone.

As a Rotherham legend, I often wondered how he felt about getting us promotion at the Millers in ‘69? 1-1, from memory the locals weren’t too friendly...
Of course was also the manager when we beat the Moore/Hurst/Peters Hammers in ‘67. True legend, thanks Danny.

One Danny Williams, there’s only one Danny Williams, one Danny Williams, there’s only one Danny Williams. Sadly the great man has climbed those famous steps for the last time and joins rightly so other legends who have already gone. Great man, great team great victory. Take your place at the top table Danny RIP.
