Title: Xbox HDMI problems
Post by: Jimmy Glass is an Alien on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 13:46:01
The lad has an xbox 360 which works perfectly fine via HDMI on the living room TV. We decided to move the console into his room to allow us to watch TV as opposed to be dictated to!

The issue I have is since the xbox has moved up to his room, the same HDMI cable will not pick up his xbox. I know the HDMI port works as it was used for his PS3 previously. The xbox works as it plays through component cable, but as there are no slots for the audio cables he has to play in silence.

I have taken the xbox back downstairs and tried to change the visual settings to allow it be picked up on the upstairs TV, but when I connect it back up via HDMI it still isn't picked up. When connected by component it doesn't have an option to reset or change the visual settings.

Aside from purchasing a new TV, am I missing anything that will allow me to get either the HDMI to work or find a way to get audio to work on component when there are no spare ports for the cables?

Just the one. I've attached the link for the model of TV.

Had a quick search on forums. They suggest trying auto.detect visual settings on.the.xbox or if not, reset the TV to factory settings. I'm not recommending either  :), just what I read.

Had a recent issue with a telly not recognising the aerial, did a factory reset and it was fine.

Didn't Chubbs have a recent aerial issue too?

Hopefully something as stupid as that.

Are you sure it's not because the Xbox is set to output in 1080p but the bedroom TV only does 1080i?

I haven't got an Xbox, but isn't there a button combo you can press on start up to reset the visual settings to default?

Reset the console display settings

If the display problem is still not resolved, reset the display settings of your console. Here’s how:

Remove any discs from the disc tray.
Turn off the console.
Turn on the console.
Note If you are using an Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, turn on the console by using the Guide button on the controller. Make sure that you use the player 1 controller when you do this. The player 1 controller will have the upper-left light illuminated.

As the console starts, on the controller, press and hold Y while pulling the right trigger. The display settings are reset to the default settings, and then the console automatically restarts.

I am guessing that's what the auto detect visual settings does. :sherlock:

Tried the factory reset on the TV, still no luck. However I do get a hdmi 'not support' message. I've also tried to restore the display settings as well.

Anything to do with a lack of HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)?

Could it play Blu Ray using the PS3 before?

I'm about 99% certain it played blu-rays before. How do I check fthe HDCP?

I would say play some streamed content e.g. Netflix but because the xbox doesn’t work over HDMI it’s irrelevant.

If you still had the PS3 you could check…or play a Blu Ray.

I could try moving the blu ray player up to the TV to see if that works?

I'd try another HDMI source anyway because it could be the port is knackered. Have you tried a new cable?
