So having a big declutter and will be giving a lot of stuff to charity but I'm sure there are various items which I reckon we might be able to get some cash for. However I haven't got the faintest idea what something would be worth. Is there any online tool that may be used to give me an approximation or am I going to have to dig deeper to get a sensible idea of what something might fetch in cash?

If it is specialist stuff, you might find a Facebook group who can assist.

Yeah that’s kind of what I was thinking, cheers.

You can look at Ebay completed listings to see what items have sold for to give you an idea. Facebook Marketplace too, if you're on Facebook.

Thanks Ginginho, Ebay sounds like it’ll do the job. I came off of Facebook but could use it to get an idea - cheers.

If its something generic ebay has a "previous listing" area to see what things sold for. If you want to avoid ebay charges, i found Facebook marketplace the best way. Never any issues, apart from people not turning up or not replying.

Thanks Chubbs, another vote for Ebay then. I'll give that a go.

Ebay has always worked for me. It's quite fun watching the auction and seeing (hopefully) the bids come in as the auction gets to an end. Set the auction end date/time for a weekend so folks more likely to be around to bid. Don't forget to put P&P on there of course.
For bigger things (furniture etc) my kids use Facebook marketplace and seems to be pretty good for having things collected/local, but not tried it myself

That's useful information actually as there are a couple of bulkier items (coffee machine for example) that will need to be collected.

eBay take a 10% cut. I've used it when Facebook marketplace and Gumtree yielded no results.
Problem with FB and Gumtree is you will get haggled a fair bit, but I've had people come from Bristol and London to get the items.

Gumtree has been a nightmare for me, though only used it a couple of times before giving up on it. Got quite a bit of interest for items but it seems Gumtree users habitually fail to turn up...
Got bored in the end and stopped using it.

eBay often offer £1 selling fees but you have to sell within the first listing period.
