Title: 2012 festival
Post by: Arriba on Monday, March 12, 2012, 12:36:40
All kicks off tomorrow folks.
Had a poor year last year, hoping to vastly improve this time around.
Fancy Zarkander to beat hurricane fly tomorrow and at 6/1 ew looks like a solid bet.

Think Binocular's the danger myself but HF will be hard to beat.

Can't have Zarkander, made hard work of it at Newbury off a mark in the 150s, thats a stone below the Fly. If they really thought he could win it Ruby would ride.

Interesting Paddy Power are out to get Sprinter Sacre - what do you reckon mate?

Steps to Freedom in the first race tomorow is what i have been tipped by two people in the know :D

Off course i wont be gambling for many reasons but i will still keep an eye open for it.

Ah, cos he's owned by JP McManus that makes him an Irish horse!

I love the way you lot like to think you know what you're talking about, with phrases like "lumping on" "solid bet" and "banker".

I never, ever win fuck all at Cheltenham, so won't be betting too much, if at all.

Good luck to you guys ;)

I've gone for a Quevega/Hurrican Fly/Sprinter Sacre treble... that's all today. Sprinter Sacre could be the one to let me down there, so thinking of covering it with Menorah on Paddy's (bet refunded if SS does indeed win)

I can't access gambling sites at work, so can't even look at the races/odds.

What price is Montbazon in the 1:30?

Title: Re: 2012 festival
Post by: fittons_coaching_badge on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, 09:10:04
Didnt realise there were two bloody threads!

I am here and in position for all 4 days .... We have a box just after the finish line .... Hope the mist lifts ..... And for the sake of the business not to many short price favourites go in ....

My tips for today .....

1.30

Cracking start to the meet.  19 runners with at least 12 serious chances.  Darlan with AP McCoy on board is bound to be popular and we fully expect to go off as favourite.  I am going to back CINDERS AND ASHES E/W at around 10/1.  It has won its last 3 and though this will represent a step up in class its not a huge one and should have strong place claims at the least.

2.05

I cant see Sprinter Sacre getting beat.  If it does it will be AL FEROF, who I will back. But Sprinter Scare hasnt even come off the bridle in his last 3 wins.

2.40

Close you eyes and hope on this one.  Possibilities galore.  AP McCoy is on Quantitiativeeasing which is bound to see support but is carrying a whopping 11.12.  I wouldnt advise anyone against either The Package or Tullamore Dew.  My choice here will be OUR MICK.  Will go off at around 10/1 and another E/W choice.

3.20

All about the Fly ... Hurricane Fly.  We are almost certain this thing will go off odds on maybe 4/5 or 8/11 so no real value there.  Most likely challangers look to be Binocular or Zarkandar.  I will back ZARKANDAR E/W at around 5/1.  Although I may be tempted by the time the off comes round to have a cheeky few on Rock On Ruby ... Which will go off at around 10/1.

My take on the first 4 races ....... I need to go do some work .....

Good Luck everyone .....

Going has been declared Good or Good to Soft

Had Our Mick in my E/W lucky 15, so a 10/1 winner and 11/1 place so far, so could be worse.
Also have a £5 win double - Sprinter Sacre and Hurricane Fly.

Not a fortune if it comes in, but still, better than fuck all.

Garde Champetre @ 9/1 in the next for me please ....

On the upside up bookmakers are delighted with Hurricane Fly going belly up ...... :-)

Looks like there will be a 1/2 favourite in the 4.40 as well.  That going belly up to would be lovely jubly!

Not into horse racing that much but how Balthazar King wasn't favourite for that race was beyond me. I went to the December Cheltenham meet and Balthazar King would have won the cross country that day had it not been taken the wrong way at the final turn. He looked immense.

So I backed him today, on the nose, as ew betting (at those prices) is for women, confident he'd have another good run.

A good day today.
Had Montbazon in the first at 15/2 E/W with Skybet and they paid out on 5 places. (finished 4th)
Backed Al Ferof with Paddy Power for the Arkle and they went money back if Sprinter Sacre won. He did, so that was a free bet.
Hit the back of the net with Rock on Ruby at 11/1 E/W in the CH and followed that up with Balthazar King E/W at 6's.

Tomorrow's fancies:

1.30 Allee Garde               11/2      E/W
2.05 Batonnier                  8/1       E/W
2.40 Grand Crus                11/8     Win
3.20 Sizing Europe            10/11    Win
4.00 Act of Kalanisi           14/1     E/W
4.40 Vendor                     4/1      Win
5.15 Horatio Hornblower     12/1     E/W

I went to Newbury years ago, the whole way there me and my brother spent ages going through each race, looking at form, whether the ground/trip will suit, etc, etc and all that bollocks.
Had one winner all day.

His missus picked a 33/1 winner and a 50/1 2nd just from the names.

To top off an utterly crap day, the one winner we had was in the last race, we went to pick our winnings up from the bookie, only to find he'd done a bunk owing use about £60 each.
He must've taken a hammering to have done a runner like that.

3 days in to the festival am enjoying working the "see you then" bar hard work, longs hours tips are a bit stingy but great atmosphere & lots of beautiful Irish men
Come & see me if any of you are going?
Not allowed to bet on shift but a regular from the bar put a cheeky bet on for me today after I was given a tip by a trainer this morning & it came in first!
Oh & I met Ronnie Corbett! :)
