hahahahahahahahahahaha :D

Mcmanus and magnier made a mint out of this. Estimated that they've made in the region of £30m each. not bad for essentially doing fuck all.

Demo outside OT at 5pm (in 10 minutes).

Could go a bit funny. I cant believe hes gone and done it. Everyone connected to Man U told him to fuck off and hes still gone and bought them. Why would he do that?

Strange times.

:D   He still needs to get 75% before he can start borrowing against the club.

That said he controlling interest will mean he's in the hot seat.

I hate Man Utd but no-one deserves what Glaziers going to wind up doing, do they?

Wrexham... Hamilton.... same problem, bigger scale.

not really the same problem at all though is it? wrexham's assets (ie. the ground) are worth more than the footballing side of wrexham fc, whereas glazier has bought into the man utd brand. to make money he needs man utd to carry on as it is.

I feel sorry for the Manchester (ie local) fans who have been going to games on the back of their marvellous ticketing policy. That will now go, if not this season the next.

However this can happen to any plc floated on the stock exchange. Up until now its made them about £100 million. Its helped them be such a successful team. You reap what you sow.

Odd looking bloke, Glazer. Got a beard fashionable in the US circa 1860.

Is he going to replace all the windows at Old Trafford then?

Sorry. It couldn't happen to a nicer club, funny how they've spent years trying to make themselves the most marketable football club in the world and then Glazer comes along and they're all up in arms over it.

ManUre deserve everything they get, then some.......I was  interested to hear that Glazer presented the Tampa Bay authorities with an ultimatum....build me a stadium or I move the Franchise......they built him a new stadium.

I dont hate Utd and don't understand the whole Manure thing, this Glazier prick is a twat and more of a threat to football than the whole franchise fc fiasco.Utd get stick because of their part time supporters  but i know West country lads who love that club and go to every single match. If they are glory boys then fair play to them it costs them a lot of cash.

Didn't the UTD fans association say they would start Real Manchester or something if Glazier took over?Lets see if they're all mouth and trousers.

If Glazer can get to 75% ownership of the shares, he can delist the company from the stock exchange. He can also transfer his personal debt into MUFC - I assume this is only the debt involved with purchasing the club. It is estimated he has 70% already and risisng!

If he so wishes he can attempt to get 90% and then the remaining 10% will be available to him under compulsary purchase. This is English business law.

So in fact he will purchase the club with a (US) bank loan, and the transfer the loan debt to the culb

Whilst I have a little sympathy, the United board took this risk of going PLC, took the riches and invested in the club and infrastructure, and gained the rewards through success (financial and silverware).

They can hardly complain when the same business setup works against them. Its the risk you take.

I'm with Yeovil on this, I don't understand the whole anti-Utd feeling.  In my view it's just jealously.  In the late 80's, 90's no one hated Utd, then just cos the had a successful period in the 90's everyone starts hating them.  Winds me up when non-footballing people hate them too, what's that all about.

In Scotland least everyone hates Rangers and Celtic because they rob the smaller clubs of an decent players then play them in their reserves and are both non Scottish clubs.

Generally I hate Utd because of Fergie and Keane.

Fergie because he just thinks he has the right to be the best - and has imparted that mentality onto his team.

Keane because I think he is the most over-rated player in the Premiership's history, and because he is a viscious, careless, wreckless (though I hesitate to use this word in particular, because wreckless implies he doesn't mean to injure players, when we all know that in actual fact he does) individual.

Though I cannot argue with the talent Fergie has brought through from the youth system.

With regards Glazier, he seems like an evil little parasite, and looks set do the direct opposite for Man Utd as to what Abramovich has done for Chelski.

In the 80's and 90's plenty hated ManUre, an example being, how when they were up on an illegal payments charge similar to ours, it was dropped by the football authorities when Louis Edwards died.

The way the arrogance of assuming they should win the league, yet kept on failing despite their wealth was a source of huge amusement, especially as with each failure their gates would dwindle off to 28, 29000......now of course we'd be very happy with that...it wasn't until  the advent of the Prem all the cards were so stacked in their favour that they could finally win the league.....and so attract the glory hunters.

In fairness though Reg, that's common practice in the States, it happens all the time.

I want to know exactly what he's going to do that's going to have such a cataclysmic effect on Man U in particular and football in general.  Is he going to build a massive pirate ship on the Stretford End or something like they've done in Tampa?

I am certainly not jealous of Man U, but I do genuinely dislike the the club.  Over the years they've had some genuinely dislikeable people playing for/managing them such as:

1. Ferguson - Whinging moaning twat
2. Paul Ince - Whinging moaning twat
3. Mark Hughes - Whinging moaning twat
4. Gary Pallister - Whinging moaning twat
5. Peter Schmeichel -  Whinging moaning twat
6. Steve Bruce - Whinging moaning twat
7. The Neville sisters - Whinging moaning twats
8. Roy Keane - Dirty disgusting whinging moaning twat
10. Cantona - Gifted dirty disgusting whinging moaning twat
11. Stam/Silvestre - Whinging moaning twats who look like Easter Island heads.

And don't even get me started on their vast army of fairweather/armchair fans.

So in conclusion: Man Utd.  WHAT'S TO FUCKING LIKE??????????

I'm no expert on American gridiron, but it interested me from an STFC point of view, our board should threaten to move to Basingstoke, unless the SBC pulls its finger out.

Recall the fella when we played ManUre in the Prem, who chinned Hughes as he tried to get the ball for a throw in.....also some of their fans kicked off because of JAF aeroplane celebration.......tossers.

You can't deny watching matches when Cantona was on the pitch was sheer entertainment, the man was superb.  Even when he lost it, he lost it with a certain gallic style.  Legend in my book.

Totally agree with OST, theres nowt to like about Man U.

Makes me chuckle how all their fans ar so opposed to them being a PLC now, didnt hear them complaining when it gave them the money to become the richest club in the world. Cunts.

And cantonas a cunt. I still havnt fogiven him for stamping on John Moncur.

So does no one on here worry that he wants to break the collective agreement on TV rights?

Yeovil, I think it's supposed to be FC Manchester.  However, I'm sure their will be a long and sustained big to get rid of Glazer before that happens.  Are the United lot you know complete pissheads? Dressers but not lads?

Yes, very good.  Seems strange no one has mentioned it given the implications for lower league clubs.

However, BBC business editor Jeff Randall believes Malcolm Glazer's takeover bid for Manchester United could have implications for all football clubs.

Glazer, the US tycoon who owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers American Football team, has won control of the club after securing the stake owned by JP McManus and John Magnier.

If the fans staged a really effective protest and the stadium was half empty or worse then it would really hit him in the pocket

BBC business editor Jeff Randall

He now has more than 70% of the club and wants to buy the rest of United's shares.

"The key point of Glazer's business plan is football television rights," said Randall.

"If United can break with the Premier League collective agreement and negotiate on their own then maybe they can jack up their income.

"Glazer has stumped up £300m of his own money but he has borrowed another £270m on top of that."

Randall said Glazer could have invested in other businesses to make money but had clearly spotted an opportunity with Manchester United.

But Randall added: "If Glazer is going to make a commercial return then he has to make United work much harder than it has been working.

"Clearly the TV rights is a way of doing it. But if United get more out of the TV rights, then others are going to get less because I don't think Sky will pay more to everybody.

"If Man Utd get more I suspect the likes of Norwich and West Brom will get less.

Not just Norwich and West Brom though, also the money that filters down the league.

Title: Glazier in control of Man U
Post by: Piemonte on Friday, May 13, 2005, 13:18:55
I dont see how that will affect lower league clubs like ourselves. I think it may end up in the top 5 or 6 clubs deciding to negotiate their own TV deals and the premier league telling them to fuck off. This would probablly be the start of a european super league being set up.

I can see a lot of fans of those clubs getting pissed off with the big business of top european football and settling for something not as good but more "real" ie lower league football.

I don't hate Man U.
I don't hate Man U fans.

I hate Man U "fans". :?

They buy a shirt, proudly parade it around the town when United win and hide it when they don't, and say I'm a real fan, I tried to go to a game but couldn't get a ticket. Hmm....

I spend ridiculous amounts of money watching Swindon, I go and watch them as often as is possible, and am proud to wear the shirt whether we win draw or lose.
