Title: Paolo Di Canio: 1 year on...
Post by: Costanza on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 18:37:09
It's one year to the day that Di Canio was officially unveiled as Swindon Town boss. It's been eventful!

To be honest, I expected his stay to be brief but here we are.

What a boring year it's been...bring back Malpas and the monkey that lived on his back!

I still haven't worked out if PDC is a genius or mad as a box of frogs. Nor whether he will ultimately leave a legend or a bellend (see what I did there).

My reasons:

The results have been superb (bar 3 games), the football has largely been superb, we have good momentum. Nobody can complain at our season. He's turned our club around.

Yet on the other side lots of dodgy signings, very hard on the players; a lot of take and not much give, really strange substitutions, Clarkegate, Kerouchegate, Tehouegate, not really seen him when under real pressure.

Just going to sit back and enjoy the ride and see where it takes us.

What a year! Even if he left tomorrow he would still be a legend in my eyes.

I was pissed off when he board choose him over Burley/Hamman.  As soon as I saw that first press conference where he was introduced I knew my initial opinion would be proved incorrect.

Both?

Either way, it's made Swindon a talking point everywhere I go, and also stopped the pointing and laughing from fans of other clubs.

True enough. And thus far its worked out very well on balance.

I'm sure a lot more people are aware of Swindon Town Fc now, as opposed to a year ago.

Turned out Genius! Given us our most entertaining season in years, and whilst other fans slag him and us off they also mostly wish they had him !!  :smugfu:

It sure has been a roller coaster ride.  Given the budget and support he had from the board promotion was to be expected (granted this is easier said than done).  The true test starts now with a push for back to back promotions.  It will be interesting to see what happens if we are mid-table at Christmas.  How will Di Canio handle this?

From here in New Zealand...I can assure you that the past year has been wonderful (except the Pox matches) if compared with the previous year.
Di Canio may on occasions be a clown however his passion and obvious knowledge of football is without doubt..
Paolo Di Canio has shown that he has the potential to be a world class manager.
Long may it continue   :)
