GParted will sort it easily. Increasing the partition size is a piece of cake.

Lets hope so. I'm not the most technically minded.

On another issue can anyone recommend an backup/imaging software ?

To create a complete image of the HDD? I used Norton Ghost last time, it worked great but its hardly bleeding edge, nor free.

If you've got a decent internet connection I'd go for one of the online backups, eg Backblaze or Mozy. Costs under £5 a month, is a lot easier than local backups and gives the added security of an offsite backup.

Another option if you haven't got much data is one of the online drive services (Google, Microsoft, Dropbox). Just create an account then copy all your data over every week or so.
