Found out it is a faulty power supply behind my problems - new one on order. My dad reckons it was caused by one of the many viruses I had on here - he's power supply also went immediately after having a virus.
For anyone who doesn't know,
www.pcpitstop.com will do a complete diagnostic on your PC and may just find your problem - that is how I discovered my problem was the power supply.
