Author Topic: Average League Finish  (Read 2335 times)

I've just had a jolly exciting half an hour.

Since the league has been in it's current 4 tier system (since 58-59 when Div3 South and North merged into Div 3 and 4), Swindon's mean league Finish has been 49th, our median finish is fascinatingly exactly the same - 49th, which suggests our spread of finishes higher and lower must be fairly even.

49th is 5th in League One in the current league set up - exactly where we finished in our playoff season.

Fascinating eh?

You've just out-statted DV and Reg. Good work.

My lasagne isn't ready.

I just nicked the table of our season finishes of wikipedia and worked out where each finish was in terms of the whole football league. Luckily the number of teams in each league has only changed a few times.

Sexy spreadsheet fun.

I'll upload it if anybody wants it. It's not tidy or anything. Oh and it's in openoffice but I guess I can save it in excel format somewhere.

Oh and in that time we've finished 54th (or 10th in league one as it is now) more times than any other position.

When you see those historical points list things...we're usually around 50th.

I'd say it was a fair reflection of where we should be...namely inside the top ten in L1.

Unfortunately, we're not in a condition as a club to currently aspire that high...to get back to that we need some progress...hopefully the keeping a tight rein on wages policy will prove beneficial when a few more clubs hit financial problems in the present climate.
