Quote
ANDREW Fitton insists there will be no knee-jerk reaction to Town's fourth successive home defeat, claiming "nothing has changed" in his bid to bring stability and success to the County Ground.

Millwall became the latest League One side to plunder three points in Wiltshire on Sunday, as some sections of the crowd vented their frustration towards the Town management.

Cries of you don't know what you're doing' accompanied Maurice Malpas, pictured left, down the tunnel after the final whistle, but Fitton insists his judgement will not be swayed by any taunts from the terraces.

The Swindon chairman has instead urged all supporters to keep the faith as he looks to turn his blueprint for a Championship football club into a reality.

Fitton, pictured right, told the Advertiser: "First of all, when you support a club all your life you know it doesn't help the team by booing, and that's absolutely true.

"Secondly, I do take notice of what the fans are saying and thinking but they have to trust that the people who are running their club know what they are doing.
advertisement

"We have not quite got it right on the pitch so far, but people need to accept that we won't get everything right all at once.

"Any negativity is not going to inform my opinions or change my mind.

"We are executing a long term plan to bring stability and success to Swindon Town, to make it a club we can all be proud of, and on that front nothing has changed."

While results at the County Ground have been a cause for concern, the Robins' five-point return on the road is ample proof of the squad's playing ability.

Captain Hasney Aljofree yesterday admitted Town's players were scared to play at home, as they are worried about letting the fans down.

Fitton is keen to see the players' confidence restored as soon as possible, and insists he will not sacrifice his long term ambitions for short term change.

"We passionately believe in what we are doing," he said.

"I want the fans to know that we do talk about and analyse the issues all the time.

"Individually and as a group, we have regular meetings to discuss how to make progress. Nobody just sits here thinking it will all come right.

He added: "I am convinced we have taken all the right steps and in due course things will become clearer that we are going in the right direction.

"I am in this for the long haul to create a football club that we can all be proud of, and that's what I'm trying to achieve."

Each time Fitton speaks, I like him a little more.  We're in a sticky patch, for sure - but I share his confidence that it will come good in the end.

I wish people would stop linking to thisis because I always stupidly read the comments.

In Fittion I trust, if he thinks Malpas is the right man then so be it. I'll support his decision.

Of course the thisis comments are all along the lines of 'Malpas Out' our away form shows the team can play well, compete and grind out results.

Tomorrow's adver should have Hasney holding up a  "**** off you Bopards" sign, then he should launch into a vicious attack on Town's support.

The time for metaphors is over - it's time Hasney unleashed his inner Cantona and started directly punishing any transgression against his immense standing in world football.

I particularly liked Robin69's story about what his son imagined he might say (but wouldn't really) if/when Malpas visited his school classroom.  What fine japes!  He'll be dining out on that one for years to come, I would imagine.

Robin69 sure knows how to teach children good moral's,what get's me he think's it so great he's told everyone that malpas is no good..I told you so blah blah.

Back to the statement i cant make out if thats a vote of confidence or not, this time he's mentioned about the board discussing things' last time it was more of shut up and get behind the team kinda of thing.Unless he was a bit more diplomatic this time around so he did't rile the fans.

Eh? Thought you'd be dead chuffed
the bloke should say something publicly asap.he either needs to give the dreaded vote of confidence or get shot of malpas.say anything really, but he cannot just say nothing.it's hit a point where fans need to hear something from the board.

i'm glad he spoke but as others popinted out doing so wouldn't wash with some.
i did say after reading others resposes that i was unsure if he should say anything if he was sticking with malpas.i changed my mind slightly.
the responses to the article prompted the above post really.i'm going the way fitton wants us to and many will take note of what he has said.but there will be others who will not bow to his wishes.thats why the inevitable is only being delayed imo.maplas is a goner.it's just when that we dont know

Let's be honest though if Malpas does not manage to turn things round in the next month or so then Fitton & Co will have a decision to make as I'm sure his plans for this season did not include a relegation fight.

I'm undecided really on whether Malpas will turn this around, I think Friday is crucial if we manage to get a good win (2-0 +) then it may instil some confidence in the management that they can fix this and in the players that the management is capable of coming through this, but if we lose then it put's more pressure on the home game (the mickey mouse cup is irelevant) and certain fan's will not be as forgiving it will just increase the abuse.

They may point to our away form being better but we're not exatly picking up 3 pts per away game are we ?

It also needs fan's to agree to keep their criticism until after the final whistle so fan's cannot be blamed for any poor performance.

I'm just terrified that Fitton must read the Adver site from time to time, and then conclude that all the nasty things people from the surrounding areas say about Swindon are true.  'That's it', he will lament, 'my business model is screwed!'

Do you think he is aware of the erudite TEF?

I don't agree with some of the comments Fitton made. I'm not going to get pissed off at Fitton because he is running the club well, but I do not agree with them. Stuff about not booing the players and backing them I do agree with. It's been a struggle for me to get into games and the songs whenever they have broken out though.

That said, I'm a little bit annoyed about this 'we must trust Fitton because he saved our club philosophy'. [the majority] Of fans are not stupid. They watch a lot of football. They can see issues on the pitch.

I had an idea for one about a lion cub who didn't listen to the fables the elder lion told him. Stuff about zebras and shit. Would you be interested in that if you were a lion cub? Probably not. Good stuff it is.

Change for the better is easy. Just Caterpillars and tadpoles and shit.

There was a beautiful young caterpillar named Elvis. Elvis grew up with all his brothers and sisters living on a delicious leafy bush. They had no worries in the world.

One day Elvis awoke to find his siblings munching away at leaves, this wasn't just normal breakfast munching, they were really going for it.

"Why are you eating so much?" asked Elvis, curiously.

"We need the extra energy to build cocoons, so we can turn into beautiful butterflies" replied Mary, who was the most outspoken of Elvis' many sisters.

Elvis decided that building a cocoon sounded like a lot of hard work, but he did enjoy eating, so he munched along with the rest of them. Elvis ate a lot, and soon fell asleep, full and content.

The next day, Elvis awoke to find himself all alone except for many cocoons hanging from empty branches all around him. Elvis wasn't used to being alone, and suddenly realised he missed all his brothers and sisters. He suddenly had nothing to do apart from eating. And eat he did. He kept munching and munching away at the leafy bush which had been his home for so long. Hour after hour, devouring leaf after leaf, only having breaks to sleep.

Elvis kept eating and sleeping and got bigger and bigger. Until eventually, he woke up one morning to find he'd devoured the entire leafy bush that he'd called home for so many years. He was so fat now that he could hardly move, he tried to waddle down the stem of the bush, so he could find a new home, but he only got halfway down before he fell asleep from exhaustion.

Elvis awakened to the noise of his brothers and sisters flapping around him, they'd turned into beautiful butterfly's.

"Why aren't you a butterfly, Elvis?" they asked him as they flapped around, trying out their new wings.

"I was happy living on the leafy bush," Elvis replied, "I didn't want to turn into a butterfly. Now I think I'm stuck here."

"Don't worry!" his siblings cried, "We'll use our wings to carry you to a new bush, where you can eat as much as you want and be the happiest caterpillar in the world."

And so Elvis's brothers and sisters tried there best to help carry Elvis to a new home, but he was too heavy and he died of starvation.
