Title: what do we do now?
Post by: DMR on Thursday, December 6, 2007, 15:45:00
what does everyone think? personally i just don't think there is anything we can do now - the powers that be hold the aces, they're in charge and they're determined to see us fucked over, i'm convinced now.

the only way must be a total, absolute boycott of anything STFC.

If we get to the Brighton game then it has to be something big, very BIG in the way of a protest whether that be a pitch invasion or something else.

But we have seen, time and again, that organised protests lack the bite to make a difference.  Effective, large scale protests are spontaneous.

And frankly, if one does not now take place, then Swindon doesn't deserve a football club.

BOYCOTT THE CLUB!  Stop their income.  Do not buy anything in the club shop do not attend games (unless you're a season ticket holder - then do not buy anything in the ground).

I think it maybe too late, however if there is to be one I would be there like a shot :run:

I would go a step further and suggest even those with a Season ticket boycott.  The sheer emptiness will cause a stir, the non match day income will cause the income hit needed.

The problem here is it needs to be a massive effort, not just a couple of hundred people.

Other than that, the only protest action that has any hope of working would involve individuals targetting individuals within the regime, and the actions would probably be at the very least bordering on illegal.

I'm not suggesting anyone should of course, in fact I think the complete boycott could work if supported, I just fear it wouldn't be.

Without wishing to annoy, standing behind a stand will not sway people who seem completely at ease with the prospect of £5m of debts becomming due anytime and seemingly leading to the winding-up of the business.

I won't be here not to be here for Brighton.  But I won't lend my season ticket if it helps.

Also, I'll join in any future agreed boycott.

I think it's all too late listening to Fitton. keep checking here from tomorrow onwards

if we're getting 400ish for protests, how would we get more than that to boycott?

I don't think you would, hence the sheer feeling of helplesness.

Is it worth people standing by the entrances and making people aware of the situation? Maybe then a few will boycott.... I've got a ST and I'm boycotting.

How many more leaflets etc can we give out though Tails?

it wouldn't work nath.

security would move us on and it'd turn nasty and i don't think i'm alone in wanting to avoid trouble.

Well targetting as many people as we can and giving out whatever leaflets we can... I'm really not sure how to reach the fanbase tbh as a lot of them seem pretty apathetic. Would the adver be the best way?

Take it to their private lives they will soon get the message, I cant see many wifes being to happy at a number of football shirted guys stood at the entrance to the grounds of their houses.
Obviously we need to keep it legal

Is it surely not time the adver got on board?  They have the tool that could raise more awareness and numbers for this idea to materialise.

Unfortunately their are enough morons that just won't believe it and are always accusing it of making things up like Kingston on MoS.

The funeral thing was front page news in the Adver. If something got done I'm sure they'd hype it up - the death of Swindon Town FC will result in most of their turnover falling.

Watching the videos that Sonic put up about the Brighton protests some what 10 years ago or so, they had 3 protests by the looks of it.

The first and in my opinion the best course of action was a large group of people standing outside the front of the ground - we could do this, surely Brighton's support at that time was averaging 3-4,000 and if we can get about 1,000 people protesting outside around the ground would show the board that the fans have had enough?

A large number of brighton supporters cared, and were willing to do something. A large number of ours couldn't give a fuck.

Agreed most people won't get involved and they will regret it when the club dies, they will wish they had done more to try and save our club.

But how can protesting OUTSIDE the stadium put the team off? Surely the fact that the players may have no jobs come christmas would be a bigger contributing factor?

I think they're mostly the people that can't be bothered. At least come up with a good excuse , like getting another beer in.

I just cannot believe people who think like that, fuck the team, players come and go, the club is more important than anything else, i wonder what those people are thinking right now....

Storm the boadroom, surround the boards cars, bombard the homes with mail this has got to go the next level. Fuck standing looking at a window singing lullabys to these twats.

I don't beleive this is true, would 1700 people go all the way to see us at Leeds if they didn't care about the club?

All our previous protests have been organised on this one website, 90% of our supporters didn't know about the protest or if they did they assumed (thanks the the boards PR campaign) that the takeover would be completed "in days" and saw no point in protesting.

There has been plenty of notice. How many times did thos gullible fans swallow these boards lies. All they do is follow the team, and dont care about the off field stuff. There was plenty of notice leading up to the forest green game about a protest, and before the cheltumb game, but did people turn up. Did they buggery.

Agreed, they won't join in no matter what.

i wouldn't be surprised if the police get nervous about letting the brighton game go ahead anyway - which will have the effect of a full boycott.  they are sure to want cash up front anyway, and we all know they won't get it.
