*bump*
Need to call on the wise ones here in TEFland.
Have £200 to spend on a digital camera. Aiming to buy one in NY on my hols.
From the reseach I have done (very little, I admit) I am looking for Optical Zoom over Digital Zoom.
I'm really looking for a good all rounder, one that works well at night and inside.
All suggestions gratefully received.

I have an olympus SP500 which is two years old and I've taken it everywhere, I love it. It's been replaced by at least one if not two subsequent models which I asssume are half decent too, the XD card is slightly costly but 1gb store an absurd numbver of photos, the AA batteries are also blinding when your travelling in remote places and everyone else is having to preserve their rechargeables.

I need a digital camera myself as I am currently no in possesion of one.
I need to get down to the local pawn shop where they always seem to have a selection of the freshly knicked models and some of them even come boxed and with guarantees and stuff.
