Is Rooney really about to be announced as England captain? I suppose he in some way gets away with constantly spewing abuse at refs so he may be perfect. But I doubt it. We'll never get anywhere. No change there I suppose.

Not really sure who I'd give the England captaincy to if I'm perfectly honest.
Perhaps the keeper?

Interesting piece by Gary Lineker in today's Guardian, he notes that in his time at Barca, the players voted for who should be captain, the reason being that the job required little more than flipping a coin on the pitch, but was mainly about representing the players to management media etc off the pitch. With this in mind, he argues, the choice should be the players rather than the management. As for who it should be, Rooney is really the only viable candidate, who despite his limitations, is perhaps the only player more or less certain of being picked.

No. Spends too much time in front of the mirror, checking his hair.

Barca still do it that way. Good idea, but in Englands case totally irrelevant

I suppose Rooney is the obvious choice. Personally I'd go for Cahill.

Rooney is not captaincy material. With the team we got at the moment, I'd also go for Cahill. I always like a centre half to lead the side.

Problem is Cahill isn't really guaranteed a start, he hasn't got much competition with England, but will be doing well to hold onto his place with Chelsea, given that Felipe Luis will probably come into the side, Azpilicueta will prob switch to right back and Ivanovich might get the CB slot. If he's not getting game time for Chelsea, then he can't really be England captain....whereas Rooney is on a massive contract at ManUre, and even LvG can't afford to piss him off....hasn't he made him captain of ManUre?
