Title: Town End Displays stickers
Post by: JayBox325 on Tuesday, September 22, 2015, 11:55:41
Hi all,

just letting you know that we're starting to raise some money for future displays by selling stickers so those who want them can get something back immediately for their contributions.

We'll be using Plasso for this instead of gofund.me as we don't have a 'target' as such. Plasso is a reliable and secure payment processor that has integrated analytics and stock tracking etc so it makes our lives a bit easier over PayPal etc.

You get seven stickers for any donation over £5 (+£2 for postage).

I agree it does seem a bit harsh having a go at one of the few fans we have that is trying to make a difference to match days, just because you didn't agree with a previous statement he was trying to make.

I expect you are one of the ones that complains about the lack of atmosphere on match days as well.  You are like a One Direction fan that is upset with the trolling..

If you think that's 'having a go' you must have led a very sheltered life.

Jeez, there's some very sensitive, precious souls on here.

It just seems Jay has forever got the begging bowl out.

Maybe the fame has gone to his head.

As long as it's football related I think it's a good thing.

Exactly my point. HIS displays.

Exactly my point. HIS displays.

If it's to be done, then somebody has to do it. Would you really rather he stopped?

It does absolutely nothing for me I must admit.

Toilet rolls were my thing back in the day - but I am a bit of a dinosaur.

I do find the whole thing slightly embarrassing and cringeworthy to be honest - but that's just my opinion.

It's on a par with clubs that don't have many fans so they have a drum to try and make up for lack of numbers

What a joyful soul you are.

Here's a suggestion: If threads such as these bother you so much, don't fucking open them. You don't see me going into cricket threads complaining that I don't enjoy cricket.

If Jay is using a forum to drum up support for his pet project he must also be prepared to accept a bit of piss taking from those that think it is infantile tosh.

To distract attention from this spat....here's something that's bothered me for a long time.  What's the difference between a sticker and a decal?  Is it just one of those American things, decals to them stickers to the rest  of us? 4D?

Thanks in advance....in the words of Captain Beefheart....Lick My Decals Off

I thought decals were transfers, like the roundels you put on an Airfix Spitfire. Dampen the backing paper and remove. Not like stickers at all.

You may well be right, which is why I'm asking, so perhaps a better question might be what's the difference between a decal and a transfer?  is that just an American thing?  I don't recall a reference to decals when I built my Airfix Spitfire circa 1959

A bit like Red Frog, I thought Decals were normally transferred, like when you get letters, or logos, that need to be aligned in a specific way, but have no vinyl connecting them as such. I recall them coming affixed to transparent plastic as individual letters or parts and then this paper/plastic peels off once the decals are stuck to the required surface.

At least that's how I remember applying my Raleigh Burner decals post spray job. :D

OK, how should I have described it?  Critiquing? Over Analysing?  The sheltered life is yours if all you can do it criticize others for doing something they believe will improve things.  If you don't like "his" banners, then make your own, if you don't want to make your own then bring a pack of bog rolls, if you don't want to do any of that then just click ignore, or don't bother looking at the threads.  I don't see what the problem is, or the need to ridicule, that's all.

Oh, and I agree with the transfer description for Decal, and the fact that it is usually a design rather than text or a message.

sticker n. an adhesive label or notice, generally printed or illustrated.

label n. a small piece of paper, fabric, plastic, or similar material attached to an object and giving information about it.

decal n. a design prepared on special paper for transfer onto another surface such as glass, porcelain, or metal.

So what's a transfer then?  I'm sure when building my Airfix Halifax Bomber...that the instructions referred to transfers.

I think decal is the american word for transfer.

I once had an American air-fix type kit and 'decal' was the word they used for the transfers. Fucking yanks, always getting the language wrong.

For the record... I don't keep any of the money made. It's purely used on stuff for the atmosphere like streamers or flags etc.

Yeah, it's a hobby I started doing, but as time goes on more and more people are getting involved on a regular basis now. A few people on Twitter & on here have asked for stickers etc so that's why I'm doing it.

If you want to buy some, cheers. It helps. If not, no worries, it's not for everyone.

I hope that point didn't have to be reiterated.

I get a accusations that I keep it, so I keep having to reminding people of I really don't. :P

I'm used to a small amount of fans not liking the display stuff, so it doesn't really bother me. I know it's not for everyone but some of the messages I've had about how good displays are prove it does more good than harm.
