Cracking goal by Ron!

Superb goal by Gudjohnsen. It doesn't seem right that Barcelona are now winning after the way Chelsea destroyed them in the first 20 minutes.  Great game though 5 goals already and there should have been more.

God knows what the score will end up as!  To be fair although chelsea were 3-0 up Barcelona do deserve it!  I still think Chelsea may well do this though!

Joe Cole/ Damien Duff unlucky not to make it 4-2 after around 40mins!

Joe Cole deserves a goal after all the work he's done on the wing, setting up two great oppertunities (the first was Lampard's goal and the second one hit the post and Duff scuffed it to the keeper.)

It was a toe-poke. I was always taught that it was BAD technique.

My coach:

'You want to hit the ball with the instep, laddy. Just like that Socrates. He should know how to shoot the bloody ball. Hey, aren't you a bit Brazilian? You look like you learnt to play there... WOW!! How did you do that?'

Easy.

And the game is good too. There are more goals in it I think. Barca have been rubbish at the back...

What a game!!!!!!!! Best I have seen in years with probably the two best teams in the world. Unbelievabley tense with the away goals rule, most nervous ending since the playoffs last year.

Ronaldinho's goal was very well taken but I thought the way Chelsea made their first was better, Barcelona got very lucky to have the clearance almost set up their goal.

Cech was unbelievable. John Terry is a legend. I thought Chelsea deserved the win, especially with the dodgy penalty. They looked so dangerous coming forward even without Robben and could have scored a few more but 4 goals past Barcelona is incredible.

Yeah his tantrum was funny, nearly as funny as Cristiano Ronaldo after Portugal were knocked out of Euro 2004.:D

Cech has confirmed he is the best goalkeeper in the world tonight and almost saved the penalty too.

Mourinho's celebrations are legendary. Best manager in the world.

I love watching Chelsea play. Hope they win it now.

I feel the need to say it was a great game, it was a great goal (amazing to see it in slo-mo) and it was a penalty, you don't defend with your hands in the air.

Post by: Titch on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, 11:21:47
Yeah i agree "ball-to-hand" or what you just don't stick your hands up cause you are asking for trouble!

Title: Chelsea V Barcelona
Post by: janaage on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, 11:27:27
Ball to hand, when the ball is fired at your hand (by your side) from a yard away, fair enough, accidental handball = indirect free kick.  A cross coming over from 20 yards, you go up with your hands everywhere they shouldn't be ball hits hand it's fucking penalty.  FACT.

Calm down mate.

Some cracking footy too.

that was lovely, that bit of football philosophy.

something about their hearts taking over and although coaches and management can try and influence the game, its like a runaway train.

t'was a penalty. compared to the commentary for the other game, the Chelsea game was class.

"it falls to Rooney.....oh what a shot!" - as the ball is scuffed on the volley by the Roonster, goes nowhere near the goal, and bounces 3 times before going out for a goal kick  :-))(

Still, it could be worse - Jonathan Pearce

Accidental ahndball is not an offence = no free kick

John motson is aweful. Don't mind Clive Tyldesley (ITV), but the runaway train thing was a bit weird, especially as the game had been exactly the same for 65 minutes before that!

Great game. Not a penalty in my opinion but don't blame the ref for giving it. But Carvalho pulled the 'keeper over for the fourth and it still counted. Classic!

Chelsea to go and do will but be unlucky not to win it. That's my predictioin anyway.

 From the laws of football

    A direct free kick is also awarded to the opposing team if a player commits any of the following four offences:

    * tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball
    * holds an opponent
    * spits at an opponent
    * handles the ball deliberately  (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area)
