In his entire career he has played

7 games for Chesterfield
2 games for Bristol Rovers
0 games for Ipswich Town

He made a grand total of 1 start of Chesterfield and 1 start for Bristol Rovers.

Louis Thompson on the other hand has played 30 games for us 12 starts and 18 sub appearances.

Fair enough then. Think everyone knows he'd have been better off staying here then looking for a move if/when he proved himself in the league here (apart from him, possibly)

Has Louis really only made 12 starts? Jeez. It feels like a lot more.

The u21 league is arguably better than league 1.

From a technical stand point perhaps. From a competitive point of view? I highly doubt it.

I think we all agree with that but the lure of Premier League wages, even for a youth team player, far outweigh the wages we could have offered him.

If he completes his move then we miss out on any sell on fee as we did with Ben Tozer, Leigh Mills, Jamie Stephens, Matthew Collins and Lukas Jutkiewicz to name a few in the last 10 years that have left us and failed to make any impact at Premier League clubs after leaving us.

In this day and age, it's inevitable that lads are going to move on.....even if they end up like Matty Collins playing in the League of Wales.

A 3 year contract at a Prem club for a kid is likely to be worth at least half a mill...if you're a bit sensible, then it should set you up for life, even if it doesn't work out.

The unfortunate thing is, most of these kids (and their parents to a degree) only see the colour of the money and the potential to be a 'somebody'. Yet in reality, they'll earn good money for 2 or 3 years but are completely oblivious to the fact they've more chance of ending up a nobody than making it into a Premier League first team.

Pretty much, how you stop this I dont know.

Wage cap for under 21s? even then they'd still go to the big clubs hoping for a pro deal of some sort.

As Reg said even nobodies who did nothing probably earnt enough to be very comfortable for a long time.

I saw Rhys Evans the other day....he's managed a career, and probably made a bit of money....last seen turning out for Hereford, who stayed in the Conference for now, on goal difference.

Amazingly still only 32, so fitness permitting could have another 5 or 6 years of kicking around the lower leagues.

Louis Thompson would have gone if he had had an offer from a bigger club. Let's not kid ourselves here.
Kids also have better chances at bigger clubs regardless of money.

Such an offer may come in the summer.

Except for the chance that really matters - getting the invaluable experience of playing competitive first team football.

Most PL clubs just hoover up any and every half decent kid they can lay their hands on, knowing full well the kid's got precious little chance of getting anywhere with them. It's a numbers game, a sausage factory with little or no regard to the ongoing development of the vast majority who get spat out the other end.

Yeah I think they will as well. Leicester were Interested after our cup game last season and he's come on leaps and bounds since.
