Can we allow extinct ones to make things a little different?
I know, anything truly hard would never have gone extinct, but still.

Duck-Billed Platypus (hear me out)
http://cdn-www.cracked.com/articleimages/wong/cute/platypuscute1.jpg
Male platypi have a pair of spurs on their hind legs that they use for defense and dominance duels. They deliver a brutal dose of venom that will put a human being into the emergency room and leave him writhing in muscle-impaired agony for months.
It also looks freaky as fuck and will leave it's opponent in a state of "fucked-up-ness" and will make them believe they are halucinating, leaving them open to attack.
