To be a twat (because a lot of the time I am one) the reason they had man hole covers was simply to cover man holes. The question is therefore, why did they have man holes that needed covering?
Man holes are simply there to gain access to stuff under ground. The question is therefore, why do they need access under ground.

It's hidden under a stadium in Khazakstan. Hence the man holes. Hence the man hole covers.

OK, next mystery. Gary Neville's inclusion in the squad? He's played less than Michael Owen in the past couple of years.

Michael Owen would make a terrible right back.

He's not exactly tearing up trees up front either this season

It's a rubbish phrase that, on reflection isn't it? I mean when did you last see somone actually tearing up trees? And even if you did, you wouldn't think "My, how admirable", you'd think "Jesus Christ who's that fucking nutter?" and ring the coppers

My badly made point was not that Owen should be in the squad. It was that by the same selection logic (form, fitness) Neville shouldn't either. Although to be fair we'd still win if fB was at right back. And he is, trust me, a terrible right back. Probably a better third choice keeper than Carson though.

I saw trees being uprooted a few months bag. Replaced the area with roadside advertising boards. In terms of football it is a rubbish phrase though.

Plus there is a nationwide shortage of pitches with tree's growing on them which may also explain why he has not been tearing them up

So basically the decline of the English striker is pretty much your fault. If it wasn't for you groundsmen types meddling and interfering with your rakes and the like, then there might be more trees growing on pitches for players to tear up. Shocking!

Most trees on football pitches have indeed been torn up, and stored underground - hence the need for man holes, and thus man hole covers
