Title: Roy Hodgson and Tony Pulis
Post by: Don Rogers Shop on Saturday, May 16, 2009, 18:58:30
I am not a great fan of the prem league but thats a different story but if one of these two dont win manager of the year somethings wrong. I love watching fulham its counter attacking football at its best

Stoke in the premier league have been a refreshing change. There are a lot of lower league players in their line up who have showed that if you are 100% commited, and give everything then you can be a success. Im not sure they can do it for a second season, but good on them.

Roy Hodgson is righting his reputation in this country which was blemished a bit by his Blackburn time.

Roy Hodgson knows what he's doing - prior to Fulham it did just didn't work out in England for him - critically poor at Blackburn and hilariously bad at Bristol City. What he's done in the last year or so at Fulham is admirable.

Amazing to think they could be in europe and stoke finish 11th

Another thing that is refreshing is to see the fans making a difference. Stoke's home form has been excellent, and commentators have frequently said part of that has been the home atmosphere and passion at the Brittania.

I'm pretty sure that this is Fulham's best ever top flight finish. Even with Johnny Haynes up front they struggled at the highest level.

Fulham and Stoke have been outstanding this season.
After the great escape last year, who would have thought Fulham would be in Europe the following season.
Stoke have kept there premier place by the fantastic home support this season, Swindon and all otrher sides take note, the twelve man (supporter) works wonders.

Oh no, not the twelvth man! They'll be on the programme next, like Readings 'twelvth man'.   ;)

Got to mention West Brom fans as well. Theyve been bottom all season, but they have stuck by their team and Mowbray. He says he has been 'humbled' by the reception he has had despite their lowly position. Thats loyalty!!!

I would love to see them beat Liverpool tomorrow, that will really make an end of season finale.

West Brom have great support, but Stokes home support is fantastic.

i've had a soft spot for stoke for a fair few years.mainly due to their awesome support, the conga when we stuffed em 6-0,the noise they generated at their old ground when they were relegated was unbelievable.i dont really like their style of football but they have a system and it works.

fulham are a different thing alltogther.poor fan base but they play football that is pleasing on the eye.hogdson is runner up to fergie for manager of the year imo.

I'd give Hodgson the award - he's achievement deserves an accolade.

Loved the Mowbray masks last week.

Takes the piss them always giving the manager of the year award to Ferguson or one of the other big names. When you've got that kind of money to buy players and players generally queuing up to play for you, you'd have to be a bit of a twat to not win something (ie Scolari).

Staying in the Premier League, or challenging for Europe when you've got fuck all money is a far bigger achievement.

I think Joe Kinnear and Alan Shearer should be jointly awarded it, for such a sterling effort.

Got to also give Davie Moyes a shout as well. 5th place and a FA Cup final appearance is no mean feat.

Whenever I watch Stoke on TV the atmosphere is always electric. Is 'Delilah' the only football song that only 1 club sings and hasn't been nicked?

I haven't heard 'In 1969.....' anywhere else.

I haven't heard 'In 1969.....' anywhere else.

I kind of meant famous songs that people up and down the country might be familiar with. I.e 'You'll Never Walk Alone' which only Liverpool and Celtic sing in the UK.

My post was tongue in cheek. Apart from Delilah, the only one I can think of is rovers prostitute song.

Any idea of the relevance of both songs?

Think the story goes that some Stoke Fans were getting rowdy before a game and singing the usual songs to a woman who walked past. Copper asked them to behave a bit more and not sing stuff so offensive and so they started to sing Delilah and it stuck.

No one knows for sure..athough ive read on a forum that the DJ at Stoke matches had a limited amount of records and played it before every match...and it stuck with the fans.

I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles

Anyway back on topic, Hodgson has done a good job at Fulham and they could really march on if they sort out their away form. I reckon Stoke could end up in the Prem for at least another season, they're making the most of what they've got, a bit like Bolton did a few years back.

Pulis annoys the smurf out of me by wearing that rediculous baseball cap during games though.

Hodgson is a class manager.  Always suited and booted, looks the part and conducts himself in interviews very well.

People like Alladyce, Phil Brown and Benitez should take a leaf out of his book.

I'd find it hard to choose this year between Hodgson, Moyes and Pulis.  All done fantastic jobs.

Got to also give Davie Moyes a shout as well.

I'd prefer him getting a shot to the head rather than a shout. Biggest moaner and bad loser in the world of football, bigger than even Phil Brown and Steve Bruce put together which is saying something.

Plus he's a ginger. Double plus he's Scottish. Do I need to go on?

Crewe sung it first and still do sing it quite regularly.

I'd give it to all of the Newcastle managers this season.

Sterling work from them all.

Ok there are quite a few songs that only 1 club sing - however Delilah is the best song IMO.

When the whole Brittania sing Delilah, that is fucking loud. Makes the hairs stand up. Fucking cunts!! It's a shame we haven't got a decent war cry that the whole ground bellows out. Come on you reds is about as close as we get. How gay.

We really do need an 'anthem', now that the singers amongst us have been scattered to all corners of the CG it would be nice to have one song we could all join in on.......don't ask me to think of one though!

Sometimes we are fucking wet. Some fans should get their fingers out and support the team.

'Come on you Reds' is a bit poor.  It's OK when we've got our tails up and it's delivered with a bit of oomph...but I hate it when it's sung as a plaintively when things are going so well.  Then it sounds like a dirge.

The nearest we have to an 'anthem' I guess is Wise Men Say.  I've not heard anyone else sing it before...but understand that we may have nicked it from Sunderland (?)

The main problem with football songs in general is most fans are like lemmings and 99% of songs are simply well known tunes from the last 40 years put to different words.

Think both Sunderland and Blackburn sing it, there are possibly more teams as well.
