Without thinking much about it: Swindon Town 1992/93 season squad + Plus making room for Shearer and Fjortoft!

The problem with this type of discussion is we only know the players we have seen, and that means only Reg can talk about how good Maurice Owen was.

If it's an all time XI then I think a place has to be found for Harry Morris and Harold Fleming, neither of whom I saw play.

isnt there one we all voted on and was stickied at the top of one of the forum. I think the original incarnation of sonic youth did it

All time team is indeed a toughy. If however I had to pick a whole team which I actually saw play together, that would be easy. It would be the 1990 Ardiles Play Off side:

1. Digby
2. Kerslake
3. Bodin
4. McLoughlin
5. Calderwood
6. Gittens
7. Jones
8. Shearer
9. White
10. McLaren
11. Foley

Subs: Hockaday, Simpson

I'm in a bizarre situation where, although I picked watched a game in the premier and I was more than aware of the team during that time, I never really got into football until I could get there on the backs of friends parents'. My own parents never gave a shit.

I sometimes wonder if my football loving (for what it is - posting on message boards and not going to games), could have been different if I'd been lucky enough to have a football loving mother or father. On the reverse view, It does mean I've been a fan (up and down, sideways and rubbish) on my own back from a young age, but then less emotional investment and guilt from not going to games.

My 16th and 17th birthday presents were season tickets, and I'm not from a family where you get big birthday presents. I think I saved up to pay for some of my 16th.

I think that bothers me now, in that I don't see football as that important. Apart from really deep down. I'll bee honest here, it hurts when we lose, but I haven't been able to justify tickets for years. And, if I'm honest, games are never that enjoyable anymore. Do you have to like football games to be a Swindon Fan?

The all time eleven (on which I'm distracting my self) is a strange ask.

I think it's more interesting if you ignore careers and base it on one off appearances.

In which case I'll put forward:

Frank Talia (Charton vs Swindon. feb/mar ish 99/00)

more to follow  am really really durnk

But Culverhouse always played in middle for us.  Had he played much at rb, then, I'd agree.

Ruster looked alright against Boston (?) as I recall.

Absolutely.  I'm sure that after the Boston (?) game his old French club started asking for cash, UEFA found in their favour so we got rid.

Why not take a different twist on this debate. Rather than picking players from the teams over the years why not choose the best Swindon Team as a whole from a season but you can only pick players that played in that season. For example would the 1989/90 Ardiles Team be a better team than the Hoddle 1992/1993 team. Would these teams have been better than the 1993/94 team and then where does the 1968/69 or 1969/70 teams with Rogers and all compare.

For me in my time watching the town it would be the 1989/90 team

Digby, Kerslake, Bodin, Gittens, Calderwood, McLaren, Tom Jones, Foley, McLoughlin, Shearer & White

I reckon my memory must be shit as last seasons team was the best I can remember seeing. I watched the Leicester play off final again recently and thought we were terrible in comparison to our best performance from last season.
