Amazing picture of the Kop end at Sheffield Wednesday before they put a roof on it.....all standing.

A mass of humanity packed in like sardines.

An even better picture on account of it showing old Swindon captain Colin Prophet trying to tackle Pele during his Wednesday days Cheesy

This i believe was a friendly in 1972 when Wednesday played Santos from Brazil.

The Proff did ok though.........was a 0-0 draw Eek

Fantastic picture - I wonder how many they had in that day?

Not sure which match you mean, this page seems to suggest there was a 4-2 involving Pele and Sheffield Wednesday in 1962 and a 2-0 in 1972.

On a similar note, I used to work just round the corner from the old Valley in Charlton and often saw this stand and wondered how it looked when full.

They once got 75,031 in that stadium!

Wednesday once had 72,841 at Hillsborough with the old stadium.

Looking around the web that game was the 1972 game played 2 days after my 6th birthday on Wednesday 23rd February, a 2.30pm KO and a crowd of 45,000 was there that day.

Takes me back. I stood on that for my first away game in 79-80, a 0-0 draw. We didn't fill the end. The whole ground was built in a great big hole (hence The Valley I suppose), so as you walked up to it you could see nothing above the level of the turnstiles and had no idea the terrace was going to be that big.

I wasn't at the game in 72 being only 5 but I was there for the Spurs and Wolves games in 79/80 when there were 26,000 there and that was fucking packed out.

There's an image on charltonlife.com of it full, looks amazing all those people packed in there. Must've been an awesome atmosphere back in the day.
