My missus has one and she has both iWork 09 and Office on it

Personally I think iWork is just as good.  The built in mail programme on the OS is also pretty good these days....

iWork is easily downloadable from various places  Wink

Open office is great, you could just buy "pages" from the app store on your mac £13.99 i think.
But open office does all you need to do i think

Yeah it works either way round - just save your pages file as a word compatible file in the drop down box and vica versa

The big problem with Office vs Open Office / Pages is compatibility. They are 95% there but the missing 5% means page layouts get screwed up and documents normally look different when moving between the two. I've got all of them, I'll use Pages (on Mac and iPad) if it's for personal use and Office for anything I need to share (especially work stuff).

Microsoft claim the Mac and Windows versions of Office are 100% compatible with each other, especially regards layout, and I've never seen anything to suggest that isn't the case.

I'd strongly recommend getting Office, especially if its for business use.

You could also try NeoOffice which is a modified version of OpenOffice. And there's also LibreOffice, which I've never used.

I like Pages personally and iWork is freely available all over the shop as there's no serials to input and Apple knows not whether you've paid for it.

Use Libre Office myself as I don't think Open Office is being developed any more.

Libre Office is a fork of Open Office, created not long after Oracle bought Sun.

Then Oracle handed Open Office over to Apache, who are now fully responsible for it. So it's still being developed and should move along quickly once they get it merged in to their procedures and practices.

Wouldn't be surpassed to see Libre Office merge back in with Open Office as their main gripe was Oracle owning it.

If you have an ac.uk email address you can get a legit copy of office in a student deal. MS do this around every september. Google it.
