Title: Pericard has signed for......
Post by: DiscoDazR on Thursday, October 6, 2011, 23:40:18
Havant and Waterlooville in Conference South.

He'll be partnering Lee Peacock up front with Sammy Igoe on the right wing!

Yet another ex Town player at Havant following the likes of Gurney, Howe, Griffin et al

Bit of a downward spiral. I'm surprised he couldn't find a League 2 club, with his "champions league experience".

Great move for Pericard to get that level of football. I thought he would end up playing for the Nags Head on a Sunday.

oh piss off. VP will tear up that division. not even a joke. as long as he doesn't flounce around, he's an adequate league 2 striker.

Yet to prove it at any level.

Good luck to him though.

Pericard's signing is currently on the BBC Football homepage, down on the right where they put the slight irreverent stuff, titled, "Blue Square Bet South side sign former Juventus striker".

Lots of funny chin icons, but the facts are he wasn't terrible in a fucking terrible side, obviously lost  confidence after being exposed to our marvelous fans, and rebuilding from that.

19 goals since his career started in 1999-2000 says it all.

To put it into perspective Matt Heywood scored 12 in his career.

What about all the other clubs he's been fucking useless for?

I don't think he was as bad as most people make out, plus he was decent at Carlisle. He never stood a chance with the form Austin and Paynter were in and once the fans got on his back that was that. Still think he could have done a job for us this season though.

I was once told by some old guy in the Arkell's stand that I knew nothing about football after I shouted something about how bad Pericard was (think it was the play off season as well). I still think about that moment and wonder why did I back down to that guy at the time...I wonder if he still feels he could do a job for the town now.

A friend of mine who is a Stoke fan warned me he is the worst player he's ever watched prior to us signing him. He must of been really good in training or something to get a chance at the clubs he did play for.

It makes you think how many town players down the years have been dire but has still managed to get near the first team (some even under countless managers!), they must be shit hot in training. AOB, Pook etc

He wasn't bad on the pitch, it was his fitness that let him down. I'm sure he had the tag on the team dressing room wall to be more of a pro.

Today on The Washbag; Nick Judd talks exclusively to former Swindon Town striker Vincent Pericard about the stresses of life as a professional footballer away from home, his time at the County Ground and how he's rebuilding his career at Havant & Waterlooville

Doesn't do himself any favours in that interview. Does he honestly expect people to feel sorry for him? He says he had mental problems and asked the manager to leave him out but he wouldn't. Fans didn't appreciate how hard it is for foreign players to settle in (didn't he come down from Carlisle!).

Good interview. Mental health issues or otherwise, he doesn't take any responsibility for the things that have happened to him. It's everyone's fault but his.

Exactly, it's always pushing the blame to everyone else. There was always an element who disliked Pericard, but even while he was here it seemed to increase tenfold every time he opened his mouth.

Think you're all reading between the lines and coming up with something that isn't there.

He doesn't blame anyone for anything in that interview and he admits the mistake that led him to prison. He doesn't even mention the abuse he got from certain sections of the Swindon fans, which would have been a valid point for him to make.

Give the bloke a break. His career has turned to shit and he's trying to turn things round. I wish him luck with it.

People should, depression is fucking horrible thing to suffer from. I've seen it ruin the lives of 2 people so anyone suffering from it has my full sympathy and then some.

Think you're all reading between the lines and coming up with something that isn't there.

I was referring more to the articles that came out in the adver while he was here. I think the penny might be starting to drop by the time of this article that he has to shoulder at least some of the blame himself for a career that has dropped from Juventus to H&W, but he still stops just short of actually admitting part of the blame.

I'm sure depression is a real thing and not nice at all, but if intended or not, it still comes across as a bit of an excuse. Your average man on the street finds it hard to feel sorry for a professional football underperforming, turning round and blaming depression, especially when you consider the salary someone like Pericard was on.

Many people wouldn't deem it a worthy excuse for a middle aged factory worker under performing in his job who's wife and kids had left him, has all sorts of money issues, etc. and has some real valid reasons for depression, so how are we supposed to let it be for a bloke who gets paid about £2k a week to kick a football about? That's not to say footballers aren't real people and don't have feelings, real issues...but sometimes it needs to be put in to perspective.

wooooooooooooooosh, again, completely missing the point.

The point I was making is he is in a public position, in a job that regulary has outsiders chastise regularly with little sympathy. If he was suffering from depression, he could have done a lot better than some of the stuff he came out in the adver which was almost pointing the finger back in the direction of the fans. Just created more aggro for him and put him in a worse position. He was either very poorly advised or he is just a complete fuckwit.

He doesn't blame anyone for anything in that interview.....

But he does. It's the agents fault, it's the clubs fault, it's the manager. The reason he goes to prison was a 'mistake' but 'he was badly advised'. The implication is that the prison sentence was more about the advice than the mistake.

He was let down 'by circumstance'. When Billy and Charlie were playing well 'he had no chance'. He struggled with the fans, who didn't understand him.

He never says "I should have done x" or "I didn't do enough about y" or "I failed at z".

We all fail. It's how we deal with it that reveals character.

But on the mental health side, one of the things about depression is the lack of control you feel - no matter how much you earn or appear to be successful. One of the tools of dealing with it is recognising that some things are out of your control and some things aren't. For those things that are controllable, you need to step up and take responsibility.

You're just digging yourself a deeper and deeper hole.

You can't use the phrases "suffering from depression" and "could have done a lot better" in the same sentence.

You really don't understand what it is and the effect it has on people.

I've always been a miserable depressive negative cunt as most of you lot like to point out on a regular basis.

Didnt stop me being able to run or control a football.

In truth when I was at my lowest point playing football was the best thing for me - because for an hour or 90 minutes I was concentrating on the game and not on how shit I was feeling. I guess that would be different if it was your job and not a hobby.

Unless he's been depressed since 2005 then he's still a shit footballer depressed or not.
