Personally I can't stand Dave Whelan and I can't stand Wigan.  It's not like the DW Stadium is even a catchy name.

Quote
"The JJB Stadium has made Wigan known all over the world and now we can look forward to a whole new era as the DW Stadium," said Whelan.

This really just sums up that he's living in a dream world.  They are bottom of the list in the prem in terms of percentage of their ground that's filled each week and there's no atmosphere at all there (at least when I went there wasn't)

I remember that Alan Hansen documentary about life after football featured Whelan and he mentioned that he offers all the youth players I.T. lessons in case they don't make it and they always refuse - thought he was pretty sound.

But he was a bit of a numpty when Sven left England. Whelan was all over the media going on and on about how "the next manager had to be English" despite us lacking a seriously decent contender to the position.

Steve McClaren came in was atrocious and you never saw Dave Whelan make the same statements during the following search for a new boss.

If I win the Stand Buy Me lottery then I will name the Stratton Bank after me Smiley

My major issue though is that this contest is not drawn until 2nd May, by which time the Early Bird deadline will have expired.

I could well end up with a ST surplus on my hands.

I think The DW Stadium sounds good. I think we should rename the County Ground to "THE CG" to get with the times Wink

And maybe build a wall around it to create the illusion of a new stadium?

Now that is a very good point.

A club abroad actually did that.  Gazza was ahead of his time.

I struggle to see the hatred towards Wigan.  They are doing well to stay up and don't have big debts suggesting they are living within their means.  The crowds are good considering the local area, it's a Rugby League town and we can hardly talk given our average was only 11k in our season up there.

...yeah but they're totally transferable so you could sell it for £200-250+
