My flat mate is planning to go to Oz for a year in June, his Visa arrived today, but his passport expires in May 2006. Can he get home anytime before the end of May 2006, or is there like some cut off point that he'll have to return to the UK by??

He will have have to return before the end of end of may 2006, its recommended that you have at least 6 months on your passport just in case you get into any trouble. Might be worth renewing as hes got a few months to go

Should be able to renew his passport at the Brit embassy out there or if phones the Oz embassy in London makes sure that they are cool with his visa being in a cancelled passport he could renew it now and just take both out there with him.

The visa is only 12 months as a working holiday maker anyway so like Whits said he would have to return pretty close to that date anyway unless he is going on some place else.
