I do a lot of walking around here, and Mudeford Quay is special, best way is to park up near Hengistbury Head and walk up to the iron age hill fort with magnificent views (360 degree) over the Solent across to The Needles (Isle of Wight), Christchurch Harbour, Poole Bay - just breathtaking! You can often (though i'm not sure at this time of year) get a boat for a couple of quid over from there to Mudeford Quay after passing all the exclusive beach huts on the spit. I'll try and find a link
I'll second that. I used to go on holiday down there almost every year when I was young, staying in the little chalet huts on the beach.

There is a little place between Poole and Swanage called Arne, owned by the RSPB, really nice walks round there through woods and with views of Poole Harbour.

Yeah, a little cafe.  There is a pub on the Mudeford Quay side, if you take the little boat that shady mentioned.

I'm going to Weymouth tomorrow.

Good pubs around the Quayside. This thread has inspired me to take a lengthly walk tommorow, here in Bournemouth right around the coast to Swanage, get some chips there and devour them up at the RNLI look-out station, then on around to Durlston Castle, and if i'm still full of vigour onwards to Dancing Ledge - and then all the way back again. Ah, the joys of being temporarily unemployed  Wink

I'd be all over that....are the Tilly Whim Caves there or thereabouts?  I did a walk up there a few years back on an early November afternoon, when it was blowing a souwesterly gale up the Channel with added horizontal heavy rain....the ex missus and kids thought I was mad and refused to tag along....fucking brilliant, I love it, like that raw elements and no other fucker about.

If you're lucky you can see dolphins from up there.
