Title: Discussing Fred's Sponsorship revelations.
Post by: swindontownforever on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, 20:40:50
I would really like this to be an interesting discussion about Fred's interesting revelation about the current situation at the club (stickied above).

Quote from: "Fred Elliot"

No apologies for another thread on this, I just did not want this to get hidden amongst the rest.

I have thought long and hard about posting this, but I think I owe it to everyone who is thinking about coughing up their hard earned dough on this.

OK............... I received an e mail earlier on this evening, the content of which is below ;

Andy

I'm sure it's just a complete coincidence that the "cough up now or the sponsorship gets it" email came just after the club have had to pay staff by cheque because there's not enough cash in the bank for BACS to clear. Of course, everyone's 100% confident that their cheques will be honoured and it's all just a small blip in the cashflow.

Now, please dont ask me to declare the source of this e mail.

I wont. But believe you me I trust its authenticity 150%.

I have made my own personal decision NOT TO BE INVOLVED in this.

Of course, if you still all want to go ahead, thats fine with me, and as some of you have transferred monies already I will continue to collect if that is what you all want. I for one will not be contributing though.

Over to you guys and gals

Just a moment, if the BACS won't clear, then surely any cheques are going to bounce too?

I must say this news has stirred up the conscience crisis I had a few days ago on the matter.

Oh fuck a duck, I've gone past caring...

The crux of it is that if they write cheques out at 5pm today, hoping that cleared funds hit their account by Friday to cover the cheques then they have got away with it !

Fair point Fred. Didn't think of that. Dumbass.

More to the point, given we were still 50 quid or so short of the required amount anyway, a handful of people pulling out kind of forces our hand somewhat. Knowing you Fred, I suspect your contribution was probably the most of all of us.

Mex made a good point in the original thread which had my conscience eating away at me, but I didn't want to let anyone down having given my word to contribute. This gives us a get out of jail free card, so I'll happily go with the flow.

If we agree its a dead deal, I tell Luci to pass the money onto Whits for the upkeep of this forum.

Not by forcing peoples hand by saying we have got until close of business tomorrow evening to pay it, or they will offer it to someone else, without prior notice is not Yeovil

Yeah but their doing this because they haven't managed it properly, by not putting a deadline on payments its left them short, not having funds to pay wages is schoolboy stuff

OK, like can somebody spell it out for me in words of one syllable.

I don't get why the club calling in all the money they can to pay staff has on influence of whether we should continue to sponsor a player. Surely the decision has nothing to do with this. Morally we are either OK sponsoring a player, or we aren't. End of?

Either way if too many people have pulled out to make it viable then you can chuck my money at Whits too.

I think some people are upset that the club has almost threatened they will lose the player's sponsorship unless they get a shift on and do it by close of play - when it is rumoured the only reason for this threat is to get the money in to pay staff.

Not a rumour anymore though is it? Ben Lambert has confirmed it according to Fred in the management thread

Thanks.

I completely agree that making demands in such a way was, well to be polite, a bit unprofessional.

I can also see that the club need to do all they can to pay wages and so have to do everything in their power to make it happen ASAP. Though why it was left quite so late ing the day to do so is unclear - either an oversight or the latest crisis.

I guess for me personally it doesn't make much difference as to whether I would contribute or not to player sponsorship.

I don't think that changes why people are upset.

Anyway, the club not paying staff by BACS may have been substantiated, but the reason for hurrying the sponsor money has not.
