Quad-core CPU and single threaded application?

We get a portion of CPU on a machine with 16 Quad core, Intel Xeon E5620s. I previously changed MySQL to allow 1000 connections, which should be enough, but I think I could get away with 5-10 times that figure.

Just makes you think back to when PDC brought Connell on against Rotherham. Just had a nailed on penalty against us turned down and then Connell comes on and scores the equaliser and the winner. We haven't looked back since then. Fine lines and all that.
