Why do adults insist on banning everything we loved as kids?
It's like well i had my fun and enjoyed my youth but now i have a dog i think things should be banned. We will literally try and ban everything and then moan when the kids sit on their phones

It's just a modern way of marking the ancient customs of Samhain. In pre Christian, pagan British Isles, the end of the harvest period and the onset of winter, was highly significant.... cause to celebrate if the harvest was decent, and time to reflect on the travails of winter ahead.... summed up by darkness and light, and the blurring of the boundaries between life and death.
Although we obviously don't feel the forces of nature with quite the intensity of our forebears, many people still get the natural rhythms of our North Atlantic islands.
Or the simpler answer is that it’s so kids can have some fun

I’m in hospital next week to get a golf ball sized kidney stone blasted. It’s an invasive procedure and they reckon I’ll be in and out the same day. Seems a bit rushed to me.
Not fancying the piss bag one bit.

Yeah, there is that. Must be better ways of having fun than pestering grumpy gits on All Hallows Eve. Not overly keen that a very old Celtic tradition appears to have been taken ownership of by our colonial cousins and then reintroduced over here. I like the Day of the Dead thing in Mexico. Good way of getting together and remembering those who have passed away and an opportunity to dress up as well. Also don't mind some fireworks from home, outside of the organized displays, if thought through and properly managed. Trouble with that is too many idiots these days setting of those things that sound like massive explosions at one in the morning. Oh, and someone should have a go at a successful Gunpowder Plot re-enactment at least once a year.

Responsible parenting. Had the knock a few years ago, a few days before the 31st. The kids said they were away on holiday on the day. A collective 'owww' when the timing was pointed out. The accompanying parent had a good chuckle, possibly in the realisation that they were onto a loser.

You have to piss the stone out into a bag? Think Aud is referring to the Urinary Catheter he'll have for a bit.

notice how Neil Lennon delays his fall after being struck by a coin and indeed falls very tidily, away from his bench. He'd been mock applauding the cheering Hearts fans who'd thought they'd scored before an offside ruling. I thought Lennon provoked the incident actually. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46064866[not taking sides and not condoning the coin throwing where "provocation" would be a laughable defence}

You realise that footage is in slow motion and if you look closely he tries to avoid hitting the bench yet still catches it on the way down. If anything he was trying to protect himself from further injury. Not that it matters but it was a pound coin and not a 5p. Pound coin has similar weight to a shot. So not the nicest thing to be struck with at velocity.

Lays the myth of penny pinching Scots to rest though. Once got pelted by Bristol City fans after that game where we kept them out of the play offs. It was all 1 & 2p coins. Cheapskates.

I thought you were going to say it was all shackles It's all relative though RE: The Scots. I mean, you can't even buy something for a £1 in the £1 shops anymore! So may as well chuck them away. What with the value of FIAT going down every year too.
